EBay fees

I would like to stress the unfairness of eBay taking a percentage of seller shipping fees. I am constanly loosing money on my shipping. Infortunately trying to remedy this by charging more for shipping, only decreases ones sales, no buyer wants to pay excessive shipping costs.

I understand your distress over this as Ebay has been charging this fee since 2011.  Many sellers are still not use to it after going on 14 years.

This is a fee that is standard in the industry, other similar sites do this as well.  Heck the biggest site did it long before Ebay did.

There are things / policies I firmly believe are worth fighting for change and I do that on a regular basis.  But in this case, you might as well settle in as this is not a fee Ebay is going to stop charging anymore than Amazon, Etsy or any other site would willingly do.

If you are loosing money on your shipping, that is on you, NOT Ebay.  While buyers don't like cost increases anymore than the rest of of, they are a fact of life.  There are many sellers, successful sellers, that sell and break even on shipping.  You can do it to if you want.  

I know sometimes it isn't easy.  I get that.  I've been an active seller for a very long time.  Buyers do get use to the increases in shipping.  They have to, the rates go up 3-4 times a year.

so after 32k items sold you're finding out that some items have a lower value than you think they should have and this was important to share today? these forums are just insane.

On another note; fees on shipping have been a thing here forever.

After all, those that do 'Free Shipping' should have to pay MORE than you do??

$10 with free shipping pays fees on $10

$5 with $5 shipping pays fees on $10

There is a shipping fee vs. free shipping...

I can sell the same item for $50. free shipping or $40. with the $10. shipping fee which is what it would cost to ship it.

A buyer might see your item under another buyer's item if it is the same item...naturally buyer will go for the cheapest with or without added shipping.

Some buyers have no real understanding of shipping costs. As a result, i roll all costs together in one price and offer free shipping.

Use calculated shipping and don’t pass on the discounts to your buyers.

Its because a long time ago, in an ebay far far away, some sellers listed items for very little, but set the shipping very very high, in order to avoid being charged proper selling fees.

Its not that most sellers will do this.  Its that some will (which could be dealt with), but its the fact any of them could do it.  So since shipping and item costs will exist for every purchase except local pickups, where there is no shipping fee, they are bundled together as a total cost associated with the item, and thats the amount the final value fee is calculated from.

Its fair.

Are you talking about using the Ebay label process?  If so, that has nothing to do with the shipping fee.

The Shipping fee that you charge your buyer is subject to the FVF charged by Ebay.  For example, on some of your listings you charge 4.63 for shipping.  Whether or not you purchase that shipping label on Ebay, you will pay Ebay as part of your FVF on that 4.63.  So hopefully you have the costs added into what you charge for the product you are selling.

 My  guess we all have a different opinions on what is fair and what is not but this pic message seems to convey how  to get  used to it.

In the meantime a  seller  need to stay on top of their costs and make appropriated adjustments

That fee on shipping  has only been  around since Nov. 2011 and was always applied to listings that offer "free shipping" (provided the seller included shipping/handling in their item selling price).

Prices for  shipping labels from USPS, UPS, FedEx goes up for every one shipping  most every thing except  "local pick-up only but you have to stay on top of the various services.

You can't do this 

Guess it  is OK  for BOTH eBay and eBay sellers to increase their  pricing  from time to time for  various reasons - right???

In a nut shell "what is good for the goose is good for the gander" in the  game of fairness.

Yes - all of ebays fees are declared up front in the open before they post anything & they agree to accept them before using the service via registration. Most people are very lazy and never bother to read the terms of service. They just hit OK. Ignorance is not an excuse.

No - the fees ebay charges in general were my perceived gripe from the poster at the top - all of ebays fees are declared up front in the open before they post anything & they agree to accept them before using the service via registration.
