I'm not sure what is going on with authentication. I just sold a pair of pre-owned Nike Lebron's, BIN price was $60, I accepted an offer for $50. They have been listed for about 3 weeks, they never had the "Authenticity Guaranteed" tag on the auction. However, after they sold and I printed the label I saw that it was shipping to Authentication. I went and looked at the listing, and all of a sudden the listing is showing "Authenticity Guaranteed".
Any other sellers seeing this? Maybe eBay is randomly selecting shoes for authentication in advance of expanding the program? They should let the seller know though, I had to explain to the buyer that the extra week that he would have to wait for his shoes were due to eBay making me send to authenticator, not any fault on my part. Also, I could only relay that info to him because he had sent me a question before he sent his offer, otherwise eBay shuts down comms between buyer and seller for authenticated shoes sales?

I guess ebay is the only one allowed to use contradictory terms and get away with it via a disclaimer..... in the same paragraph.
Its our policy to not to give you updated information yet you have to follow it as you are responsible for it. I did see however that if you offer local pick up as a a shipping option then the item is not eligible for this program......Well unless it is another written unwritten rule that you will be required to know and follow.

Yeah this just happened to me on a $45 pair of Nike running shoes. I looked through my listings and it seems to just be random items, different brands and different price points. Would like to know what’s going on

@smounts @shocktrading - out of curiosity, on your listings where you are seeing this, have you recently run any kind of mark down promotions or discount sales?
I'm noticing a lot of the shoes I'm seeing with authenticity guarantee that are way below the minimum either have strike through pricing or active or recently ended markdown discount promotions - just wondering if that is possibly a common thread.

Nope, other than lowering the original price (which was still below the threshold to begin with).

This happened recently to someone I know yesterday. Had pre-owned Nike's for sale for 55, took best offer for 40 and then authenticity guarantee came up. They asked me why, and I have no idea. I thought too, pre-owned sneakers less than $150 do not qualify.
They are going to try to contact someone to ask why. If I get any more info, I'll share back.

devon@ebay - just tagging you in here with some more current examples since that other thread was an older thread. 😊

@valueaddedresource Thank you and I appreciated it. Having recent examples helps when we reach out to specialists! 🙂

Just looked at the Authenticity Guarantee FAQ and they took out any mention of price eligibility and says “certain models” of popular brands will be authenticated. I don’t see a list of those models but could be missing it.

@shocktrading they must have just updated the FAQ page today. Yesterday it still said $100. 🤔
I guess that solves the mystery but I have to say that is crazy for them to just open this up to every listing for qualifying brands - anyone remember how over run the authenticator was early on with things backed up like 3 or 4 weeks?

@shocktrading looking at this further, no you didn't miss it - they don't say anywhere what "select models" qualify. 🤔
So at first glance with the price minimum going away you would think that would open up the floodgates, but if they are limiting it to only certain models within those brands, it could actually restrict it and make it so they aren't processing as many orders through authentication - it all just depends on how many models they allow and I would imagine that can and will change over time with no notice.
So basically now sellers will have no idea if their shoes will qualify until they actually list them? That does not sound very encouraging.

Information we received today from someone at ebay was that they are testing a program where certain brands, even less than $100 price point go through the Authentication program. I asked if there was a current list of brands available to sellers for this test program, and was told no specific list, just the more popular brands are probably included.
So yes, @valueaddedresource I think you are exactly right. We may not know which shoes qualify when we list them. My friend did not find out until his were sold.

Having to authenticate a lousy $50 item is ridiculous. What next, will they require us to send in a 99 cent Bic ballpoint pen for authentication too? So glad I don't sell shoes, what a headache.

Just looked at your listings, very quickly found a pair of $45 Nike's with authenticity guarantee stated directly at the top of the listing.

If you get an Offer or a question or even a purchase, before selling or shipping, confirm with the customer that he understands that the shoes are NOT authenticity guaranteed, although you should explain why you think they are the real thing.
Be ready to cancel At Buyer Request.
And every time you have to do this, contact eBay through the social media accounts, which are covered by actual employees not some minimum wage subcontractors working for a firm in Utah, and explain what happened.
It might help. It won't hurt.
