... because I received another feedback BEFORE any contact. Please make previous message contact with seller a condition to leaving N. feedback. Newbies, nuts and non-readers do not seem to know how to use messages for contact. Instead, they use feedback for contact (see my latest neutral). Make them learn how to use the message system - or no feedback privileges.
I will not ask for a limousine or signing bonus for use of this idea.

Use the advanced search-

Go down to the section that says sellers- check the box that says only show items from- then under specific sellers choose exclude instead of include from the drop down and enter the seller's ID

They don't want buyers to work with sellers to resolve problems. I had less cases back before eBay made sending a message automatically open a return. I don't know why, but it seems the grand plan now is to have sellers working against eBay and buyers.
I agree that in the earlier days things were much easier overall, and there wasn't this ;us v. them' mentality between buyers and sellers. Buyers always had buyer protection- electronic payment funded with a credit card.
This adversarial relationship between what were formerly known as 'trading partners' was actually cooked up and promoted by eBay in order to justify jamming mandatory PayPal down everyone's throat. Ever since, the senseless micromanagement has been ramping up too- to the point that eBay has even interfered with buyers and sellers resolving issues between each other in a way both would prefer in some cases.
I remember ages ago mixing up two eBay parcels going to Europe- Belgium and Germany if I recall. I was able to email them both and have them exchange addresses, then post their wins to each other. I comped them via PayPal plus extra for their trouble and everyone was happy. In fact, both are still loyal buyers today and the two of them have become friends and visit each other occasionally... (record collector geeks, LOL.)
This was the sort of thing that made eBay fun and made people into loyal users. None of this exists today.

@coolections wrote:I understand your concern but can tell you most buyers who have been on Ebay for awhile have been burned by contacting a seller before leaving a negative. If a buyer messages you and say they will leave a negative you can call CS and have the negative removed making the whole feedback system useless. A refund does not always mean a happy experience as some sellers seem to think.
Excuse me, but simply having a neg removed is being "burned"? If eBay removes the neg, there must be a reason for that- right or wrong- and in this case, then, it's eBay electing to "burn" the buyer, not the seller. But then, eBay has never had any problem with encouraging buyers to believe that sellers are responsible for everything eBay allows to happen here.

Yes, I'm familiar with that feature. It does not, however, block me from accidentally buying from that seller again. It can't be applied to the "Saved searches" feature. It has to be manually applied to every search. It is cumbersome and nowhere near as effective as a seller's Block Buyer List.
Thanks, though, for pointing it out to others who may not have been aware of its existence.

Unfortunately that is NOT a way to block sellers. That is only for one specific search. Ebay needs a block seller list just like they have a block buyers list. That way a buyer can search day in and day out and never have to see a specific seller's items.

YES, it is not only a burn but a total scam. I have seen over and over again people come here and say they called CS crying sometimes up to 10 times until finally one of them takes the negative off. Another scam is when a buyer mentions in feedback they opened a dispute. Of course they opened a dispute because if they did not open a dispute they would not have negged the seller in the first place. Ebay needs to warn buyers to not mention opening a dispute.

I think a bigger issue is so few buyers leave feedback anymore. If you do get a neg it will sit there on page uno for months and months and months and months.

ebay tried doing that several years ago, but it didn't work.

I don't remember Ebay trying it, but I agree sellers have asked for it for years.....obviously by now ebay isn't going to require buyers to contact the seller......
I see a number of sellers stating in listings that if there is a problem to please contact them before leaving feedback......"we want happy customers"........
Whether that works or not.....or whether it invites partial refund fishing.......who knows? but if it matters to you, you might try it.

It does work with saved searches. You can also keep all of your advanced settings when you do a new search- just click on advanced then enter a new search term and all of your previous settings- including blocked sellers- will stay with the new search.
It's a little more work to set up than a BBL, but not much. Once set it up you can bookmark the link then keep working off of the same basic search.
If you don't like the feature then don't use it. It's not as easy to use as a BBL but it's what we have to work with.
The biggest difference in my opinion with a BBL for sellers and buyers is that buyers are able to see the seller they're purchasing from before they hit the buy button and can make an informed decision to proceed are not. Sellers generally are not able to see what buyers are going to make a purchase from them before they hit the buy button so a BBL is the only way to effectively stop the transaction- unless the buyer uses a different ID or a guest account.

I have bought from tens of thousands of eBay sellers. It would be ridiculous for me to track all the bad ones personally.
a blocked seller list would be awesome but running it on every search is much more intensive than blocking buyers when they try to bid. Searches are complicated and bad enough.

I don't disagree that it's more work. My point was that it's currently the only tool eBay provides to block sellers.
If you guys feel strongly about a blocked seller list then advocate for it in the weekly chat or on social media or by calling customer service.

We have been talking about it for the 20+ years I’ve been posting on the boards. It’s not going to happen.

I think it was over 10 years ago when ebay tried it..
When a buyer went to leave a neg, 3 questions popped up, and one of the questions was "have you contacted the seller?" and buyers had to check off 3 boxes, I can't remember what the other two questions were.
Anyway, some buyers lied and checked off the boxes and left a neg, and some buyers complained to ebay about having to check off the 3 boxes. I think it lasted for about 12 months before ebay removed the questions.
