Hey guys, Recently I had someone purchase my lenovo laptop for 875$. They paid the full price then proceeded to ask to send the item too a new address (a hotel) for supposedly “having a conference” This led me to think that this guy is a scammer which I later found out was true due to someone else saying the exact same thing on another one of these eBay community blogs.
Stay safe.

Are you positive that's not the address of a freight forwarder?

Personally, I would not sell something that expensive on e-bay. Too big a chance of getting ripped-off.

You can't post buyer names and addresses here, you will get a board violation for it

You NEVER NEVER change the address for a buyer unless they show that that address has been added to their ebay account and is subsequently approved through the payment processor. Scammers will have you send to a different address than was on the original purchase tracked by ebay. They will steal your item this way by saying they did not receive it.

Also, you tell them you will cancel the sale and have them repurchase with the new added address if they want the item. You cancel with problem with buyers address and you are not going to get an Ebay defect on your account for this.

They are asking the seller to change the shipping address I believe.

Newcastle Delaware is a freight forewarder area but the seller says the address is a hotel.

It’s a bleep all right. Do not send to this address.

1) That is the address of a freight forwarder. Your order is going out of the US.
2) Cancel. No address changes.
3) Personally, I would not list something that pricey on Ebay.

Yes, I realize that. The issue here is more that the OP is being asked to change an address by someone, possibly not the buyer and he should not do that anyway. Will have to follow the directions to cancel, have buyer fix address and buy again. I would be wanting to be sure it's actually the buyer who is requesting the change.

@karrotthecollector
Is the ID asking for the 'address change' the same as the ID that paid for your product?
If it is, cancel the sale.
If it is not, use the "action" tab on your ebay messages tool bar to report the scam, and ship to your buyer of record.

cancel the sale & I would block the buyer. Done!

It is not clear if a different ID is asking for the address change. Scammers will often do this, hoping the seller won't notice. The scammers also seem to favor those freight forwarders in Delaware as well. If the person requesting the change and the actual buyer are not the same ID/Person, then the seller would be cancelling the sale and blocking the REAL buyer.
