Do you realize that ebay takes their final value fee percentage off the sales tax also?
WHAT A SCAM!! WE ARE NOT ONLY PAYING FEES TO ACCEPT THEIR PAYMENTS, FINAL VALUE FEES ON SHIPPING, AND NOW ARE PAYING FINAL VALUE FEES ON THE SALES TAX BUYERS ARE CHARGED!!

I know I just got back doing Ebay and I am shocked! So many people I have talked to are stopping it and going else where. That should not be allowed on sales tax! They give 85 discount on shipping labels yet take 12.55% where are saving. They are just getting richer and plus have charge of our bank accounts???? You have to check your itemized bill from them because I was paying 8.00 extra for BOLD that I did not know I hit.
I am not a happy camper........

@oldcoin007 wrote:Hi - I agree it is horrible. It should be illegal. Maybe someone soon will sue the ebay again. There are too many posters here that see nothing wrong with it at all. I find that very scary.
There's a big difference between not liking something and successfully suing to change it. Why don't you put up YOUR money, sue them, and change it if you think it's illegal?

No, eBay will just auto change your listings to accept offers for half price.
They do this to me daily. I have to constantly check and edit many of my listings. If I wanted to make an offer, I'd do it myself...so yes it does happen to some of us.

Yes, I realized this.
Credit card / payment processors always have taken their fee on the total sale: Merchandise, shipping or delivery costs, handling fees, any sort of surcharge, sales tax -- whatever the customer's final, total charge. It has always been this way, since credit cards were introduced. PayPal did the same, of course, which you surely must have noticed.
Nothing new, exciting, or different.

And that's where they were gracious enough to tell me that they switched BO on my listings without my consent. Definitely not above them to switch listings to any kind of setting they desire. All ebay is going to care about is getting FVFs, they won't care whether the sellers make a profit off of whatever it is. They'll get theirs.

Um, there's this little box at the bottom of every listing where it tells you what you're going to be charged for that listing.
So, once again, it's someone else's fault.

True, but eaby might listen to them...
We know they don't listen to us.No, eBay will just auto change your listings to accept offers for half price.

No I'm not. It happened to me constantly. All my listings were always Buy It Now with no Best Offers. And eBay even sends me emails AFTER changing my listings to accept BO without my permission. If I wanted to accept BO, I would have set it up that way. And I'm not alone. Many sellers have had this done to them.

Did you know PayPal only charged 2.9% on the sales tax where as eBay is charging 12.55%? And it will be even higher with every FVF increase.

Don't suggest Ebay may be to blame for your actions in hitting "bold" and being charged an extra $8. Right before you actually posted the listing, at the bottom of the page near to that final button, the costs for that listing are spelled out for you to see, and it included the extra $8.
I always look at that fees disclosure before I hit the final button to list my item, and I have caught myself a couple times over the years adding things I didn't really want.
Cheers, Duffy

Every company, no matter who it is, online or brick and mortar. If they accept credit cards or debit cards as a form of payment, has fee's/percentage taken from every transaction by their merchant service provider (the company that is processing the credit card transaction). The merchant service provider doesn't ask for just the value of the product, minus sales tax, or shipping costs etc etc. They are processing the transaction for the full amount of the invoiced amount.
Obviously the bigger the company, the better percentage rate they get, and it can vary greatly from one merchant service provider to the next.
This is why some places have signs up at their registers that state there will be 50 cent charge added to your purchase if it is less than $5 dollars. Its to help off set the percentage that the merchant service provider will take out of the sale.
While I don't agree with that tactic, it's certainly with in their rights. I think they would be better served by just adding 10 cents to the price of every item sold when they price their merchandise. In the long run, they would end up making more, since most of the time people are buying more than $5 dollars worth of product.

Yes, because I read eBay announcements.

Yes I know that too. And I also know that when it was eBay & PayPal - sellers were paying a total of 12.9% (10% eBay, 2.9% PayPal). Now with Managed Payments a sellers pay 12.55% in fees + that dreaded 30 cents.
As far as any future increase in FVF that is simply speculation kinda' like saying the Detroit Lions will win a Super Bowl in 2022 or any time in the next 50 years - last Championship December 29, 1957 - 59 to 14 over the Browns. Yeah I'm still a fan of Honolulu Blue & Silvere football, grew up on the South side of Deetroit.
Back on track, when I started selling in 2010 - the FVF for eBay was 10% of the items selling plus, plus a minimum listing fee of 35 cents and 1 free picture an a charge for each added one (10 cents ea. I believe); PayPals fees were 2.9% plus 30 cents. Basically the same %s over the last 11 years - except - FVF were charged on S & H in 2011, pictures up to 12 are free, and now a basic allotment of 250 listing free for non store subscribers used to be 50 free listing starting in 2011 or 2012. There is some added value their in my book.

Well, they could just charge 20% Final Value Fees of the Shipped Cost to Buyer and not bother you with the $1.20 per $100 sale that this costs.
$100 item with Shipping
$8 tax
$13.33 Fee
Or just 20% of $100
$20 Fee.
Even 15% would be $15...

Yes, i am aware of that.
