I posted earlier about a buyer making a false claim on a 10k ring we sold them a few days ago. This same buyer has an open return request for a the item and we discover they have this item now for sale on Mercari using our photos from ebay. I stumbled upon it today. Same customer, has her name on the Mercari account same ring. This person has a total of 10 purchases on ebay and 3 sells on Mercari, a newbie infrequent buyer (scammer) and seller on both websites. The customer was reported to ebay for their false claim and we sent a screenshot of the item for sale on the message system here to the buyer. We also warned the buyer that they better send us back what we sent. Unbelievable what these scammers will do on here. We congratulated, LOL! THE BUYER FOR HER 300 PERCENT MARKUP ON THE ITEM. WE SOLD IT TO HER FOR LIKE 220.00. SHE HAS IT UP FOR SALE FOR 480.00 ON MERCARI. The item is fairly rare so IMPOSSIBLE for this to be another ring this person has to sell OTHER than what we sent them.

I don't consider it a scam. I do it all the time, however, as I know it is more impactful to smaller business I only do it to very large corporations.

Yeah, It’s SOLD, but it’s really NOT SOLD. Lol!!!!

I just occasional make a road trip to one of those places that allow shoplifting up to a certain amount, great way to source items to sell, of course just big box stores

What do you plan to do if the buyer returns the item to you in the same condition it was when you sent it to them?

The Best answer you selected is interesting. You said in your Post 17 that you didn't consider this buyer a "scammer". We chatted a little about it. You certainly have the right to change your mind. But since you haven't gotten the item back yet, how do you know?
Certainly the buyer could return something they never even ordered from you or a damaged item or simply a box of air. Many of us have certainly experienced this with outcomes of a Return Request that is completely unfair to sellers.
There is no doubt that this buyer is not fairly dealing with you. The buyer is and has misbehaved. But other than the return shipping costs, you don't know yet what the outcome of this Return Request is yet.

That's easy to do because it just pops up as you hit reply. Anyway, you should be able to un-select if you wish by clicking on the tiny down arrow in the upper right corner of the post.

That is a great comeback !!! I would do that too if I were in your position. But how will you handle the refund to the buyer?

I have no reason to disbelieve you. If you want to correct it, you can easily do that. Go to the post, in the upper right corner is a little down arrow. Click on that. There will be an option to UNselect the post as the Best Answer.

I guess their return is their plan B, if they don't get any buyers on Mercari. Slick. Real Slick. SMH

I completely agree. However they were more than a bit shady by opening up the Request for Return as early as they did. Hopefully not that they are actually going to ship the item back to the OP, it will arrive in the same condition it was when they shipped it to the buyer.
After the item is returned, I would definitely formally report the buyer to Ebay for their bad faith process of dealing with sellers.

Indeed.
Only on ebay forums can you find someone willing to argue the color of orange juice and double down.

If there's any asterisk to the scamminess it's that it's a very STUPID scam. Like apparently she didn't realize if she wanted to maximize it she could wait until day 29 to initiate the return and then run out the return window until the last day. That would also be extra irritating, if being a hot pepper turd of a cartoon villain were part of her goal.
@vintagecraze50 I'm curious as to how you found that Mercari listing. Did you have the faintest suspicion or was it pure chance like you were looking at rings on there and just happened to see it? Also I'd like to see a pic of this ring if you're not opposed. Because unless it's exceptionally unique or big drug dealer's ring, you did well getting $220 for it already, . In my experience pre-owned gold tends to fetch a barely-above-spot price fairly easily; going beyond that is harder, and so her $480 would be laughable. Even with gold spiking an all-time record high and granting this ring to be a fairly hefty 6 grams, here's the spot:

A lot of buyers who buy something on eBay think they are buying from a large corporation and not mainly small amateur or hobby sellers. 😮
