I listed a few thing just now, AUCTION style, and there is a make offer button on them. I didnt think this was possible, but I can't even remove it.

I just sent you a test offer on that. What do you see on your side?

DK came in 5 by 5 sent out counter offer..... If it becomes a new feature we'll just have to move to backfire auctions...

Yep - got the counter and declined. I wonder how many emails I will get from ebay on this or similar listings?
Unreal. Time to really go thru new listings now - and not just BIN's.
Like I said - maybe a new seller would have accepted the 40.00 offer on my carbide can, seeing as similar ones went for 15-20.00, but I knew better.

Hi D-K,
And right below your auction that has the BO option showing there will be a new fancy banner that ebay provides to potential buyers giving a "HINT" at what the trending OFFER price is...Hint....Hint.

While probably a glitch, think about this, though. Maybe Ebay is trying to move auctions along, and increase revenue. If there are so many listings, and limited visibility for many, thus many go off with just one bid, IF a buyer comes along who really wants the item, but doesn't want to go through waiting a week, they could offer MORE than the bid price. It would be up to the seller to accept it or not, but if they do, seller might get a higher price, and Ebay has a new revenue stream. With a BIN, seller decides the price, but with a Best Offer, buyer would.
Of course, buyer might take the opposite tack and decide to submit LESS than the opening bid, thus defeating the purpose. Seller would still have right to accept or decline.
Just speculation, of course.
Yes but even if you are right this is extremely BAD form.
This means they are teaching a whole new culture to buyers that it will be okay to bombard ANY seller with an offer, even if there is no best offer on auctions, if it starts to pop up on even half of them, then any buyer will assume that he can just make an offer on any auction via PM at any time.
I can imagine how irritating that would get to the sellers who only use auctions...

Exactly.
But I'll take the 168.50 instead.

On my PC, windows 10, Chrome, this listing has Make Offer.

But on my Android phone in the eBay app, the same listing only has Place BId, no Make Offer.
100% proof that it's a bug.....on computer only

That option already exists. There is a make/send offer feature in the messaging system when a potential buyer contacts a seller or the seller replies to the potential buyer.

The seller can make an official binding Offer in messaging in reply to a buyer. The buyer does not have the same capability.

I don't recall EVER getting the "make buyer an offer" button on an ASQ on an auction, only ever FP listings.

@Anonymous
Is this a bug or a new feature?

Please please let it be a glitch.

If it is, it's a very strange one to suddenly pop up.
Who was it that said "eBay - where today's glitch is tomorrow's policy"?
