I'm new to selling on ebay so I may be paranoid but something doesn't feel right about this buyer.
I sold an item to this buyer on 8/3 for the buy it now price of $379. I look at their account and it was made that day and had under 100 page views and no other buying history.
At this point im slightly concerned and send an email to the buyer thanking them for the purchase and that I'll be sending the package with signature confirmation and ask if they'll be available to sign for the package. I haven't received a reply to that.
I then Google the name and address of the buyer. The address pulled up and 2016 county records list it as vacant. The name returns no social media hits, and the address and name have no history of association.
At this point I sent another email asking again if they're aware they will need to sign for the package and still haven't gotten a response back.
I understand this is definitive evidence but it smells fishy. Their payment still hasn't cleared and im hoping it doesn't so I can file an UID and close this out.
Am I being paranoid ? Any advice would be appreciated for this situation.
Thanks guys.

I didn't see anyone stating this. If you put an address in ebay you want something shipped to and then pay without choosing that again choosing that address in paypal, then it will be shipped to the wrong address.
Technically a buyer can add any address they wish into ebay but this will be overriden by whatever address is chosen in paypal when they pay. I can't pay in ebay without being directed to paypal and paypal is where you choose the ship to address. Then whatever address you choose is populated to ebay for label printing. Many buyers forget to choose the address they want in paypal which causes problems. An ebay address will not overide the paypal ship to address.
The only thing that is asked by PayPal is where you want your money taken from. No shipping address is asked for.

Several have, including me.
You don't 'choose' an address in PP when paying thru ebay checkout. You choose an address that you have already set up in ebay(or you enter a new one) and that's the address that is attached to the PP transaction. NONE of the addresses need to be 'in paypal' before checkout.

EXACTLY!! Think of it like having TWO keys to enable the launching of nuclear weapons. No matchy, no shippy. No matter the reasonings.
A bit extreme with the nuclear analogy??
Maybe a bit extreme, but don't forget that just because there are two keys to enable, doesn't mean that ebay or PP hid a third one that you need and didn't know about.............
But always check in PP - and not by clicking any links in emails. Just because you received an email doesn't mean it really came from PP, or that something regarding the payment didn't change after the email was sent.

@ersatz_sobriquet wrote:Yes, if the ebay ship to address is different than the paypal ship to address. Some sellers don't go into paypal and check to make sure they match.
I was pretty clear on this until reading this thread. That statement makes no sense to me.
Once a buyer pays, then the ship to address in paypal and ebay are the same. There can't be one show up in ebay and a different one in paypal when I hit print label. THe paypal address chosen by the buyer automatically populated to ebay. The only way it would be different is if I print my label before the paypal payment arrives.
An INR case filed in either ebay or paypal can only be won if I printed the label after payment was received to the proper address indicated with said payment. It can be their home address or cousin Eddie---I wouldn't know or care.
Unless something has changed, the buyer can indeed imput a different ship to address in ebay than their paypal address. If ebay has stopped that possibility from happening anymore, then I am very glad, but I have not heard that it is no longer possible to do that.
I don't think that is possible. They can pick any address they want when they pay and that address will transfer over to ebay for the label, but once the payment is made they will not be two different addresses.
That is why some buyers email after making the payment to ask if the shipment can go elsewhere because they forgot or didn't know they had to change it at the time of payment.
We need someone to test this. Used to be that a buyer could imput into ebay a different address than their paypal address(es) and the ebay label would print that ship to address, and that address did NOT populate to Paypal. Unless things have changed, it is still that way.
@starroute-us Star, can you help me out here? Did this change?
Buyers can add several addresses to their Ebay acct. and mark one as primary for ship to.
They can also add, edit or change that choice when making payment.
Has not changed.
They do not need to worry about what addys they have listed in their PP for ebay purchases, that doesnt come into play.
The addy on the print shipping label page will match the PP transaction details page shortly after paying, sometimes their is a lag.
So sellers should always double check PP to verify payment and ship to information.
Here is the account page for ebay:

The confirmed address/eBay address/Paypal address confusion just won't die. SMH. (Not addressing you, just commenting in general.)
None of the above apply. When the buyer pays, if he only has one address, that's the one that appears on the payment transaction. If he wants it delivered to a different address, his office, sister, Aunt Martha in Cleveland, then he clicks on the change button and enters that address when he pays.
And that is the only address you should ship to. It will be listed in the email you get from PayPal. It will be on the order details in your eBay selling history. It will magically appear in the shipping address field when you click on Print Label. Don't even think about printing or addressing a label before the buyer pays because you will not be covered if he chooses an alternate address.

You DON'T have to withhold the shipment. If you ship to the address on the PP payment, you are covered in both PP and Ebay.

PP will default to your primary ship to address when you create a payment, however if you don't want to use that address, you can select an alternate address before submitting your payment.

I have no idea what your agenda is here or why you have the need to be insulting. Do whatever it is you feel is appropriate for you. I have repeatedly said that it is each seller's right to decide what is best for themselves.

Ehat are you talking about? I wasn't insulting at all. I was just pointing out that some one confirmed that the eBay info populates into PayPal so there is no need to go to PayPal. Do you reread your posts? They make no sense.

Just got home from salmon fishing in Astoria Oregon. Not too hot here at the coast. 🙂
I just stopped in for a minute so did not read the replies. DK understands clearly hows it works I am positive!! Just thought I needed to add the screen shot so folks would understand it is all through ebay and then ebay transfers that info to PP.
So where is the listing for smoked salmon? I love that.
My brother always did that and had a few smoked every year.

Yes, smoked salmon yummy. We traeger it, although would probably need a commerical kitchen to sell it:(
The coast has been great this summer, inland a few miles way too hot for me, so doing things close to home.
