I'm new to selling on ebay so I may be paranoid but something doesn't feel right about this buyer.

I sold an item to this buyer on 8/3 for the buy it now price of $379. I look at their account and it was made that day and had under 100 page views and no other buying history.

At this point im slightly concerned and send an email to the buyer thanking them for the purchase and that I'll be sending the package with signature confirmation and ask if they'll be available to sign for the package. I haven't received a reply to that.

I then Google the name and address of the buyer. The address pulled up and 2016 county records list it as vacant. The name returns no social media hits, and the address and name have no history of association.

At this point I sent another email asking again if they're aware they will need to sign for the package and still haven't gotten a response back.

I understand this is definitive evidence but it smells fishy. Their payment still hasn't cleared and im hoping it doesn't so I can file an UID and close this out.

Am I being paranoid ? Any advice would be appreciated for this situation.

As long as you ship to the address found on the eBay Order details page or the PayPal Transaction Details page, you are eligible for certain protections under the eBay Money Back Guarantee.

While you're not required to ship to a confirmed address, address confirmation is useful because it provides a way for a seller to verify a buyer's identity.

We recommend against stating in your listing that you'll only ship to confirmed addresses. Since a confirmed address isn't a requirement for PayPal Seller Protection, this is an unnecessary restriction and might discourage a potential buyer.

You can create shipping labels on eBay to save time, money, and provide proof of shipment. eBay shipping labels are automatically generated from a valid shipping address.

Once a buyer pays, then the ship to address in paypal and ebay are the same. There can't be one show up in ebay and a different one in paypal when I hit print label. THe paypal address chosen by the buyer automatically populated to ebay. The only way it would be different is if I print my label before the paypal payment arrives.

An INR case filed in either ebay or paypal can only be won if I printed the label after payment was received to the proper address indicated with said payment. It can be their home address or cousin Eddie---I wouldn't know or care.

Unless something has changed, the buyer can indeed imput a different ship to address in ebay than their paypal address. If ebay has stopped that possibility from happening anymore, then I am very glad, but I have not heard that it is no longer possible to do that.

I don't think that is possible. They can pick any address they want when they pay and that address will transfer over to ebay for the label, but once the payment is made they will not be two different addresses.

That is why some buyers email after making the payment to ask if the shipment can go elsewhere because they forgot or didn't know they had to change it at the time of payment.

In Ebay a buyer can have one primary address and several other addresses for ship to addresses.

What some have tried to explain is that when a PP payment is issued by the buyer, it correct Ebay's transaction record [if necessary] in regards to the address to match the address on the PP payment.

This is what has me confused.

If someone buys on eBay and has a ship to gift address that is not their address. If this address goes to the PayPal transaction then why do you need to check it, it has to be the same.

If someone buys on eBay with a gift address and the PayPAl shows the buyers registered home address on the transaction then the the seller ships to a address the buyer doesn't want it shipped to.

Sorry to seem like I am beating a dead horse but which is it?

We need someone to test this. Used to be that a buyer could imput into ebay a different address than their paypal address(es) and the ebay label would print that ship to address, and that address did NOT populate to Paypal. Unless things have changed, it is still that way.

You don't have to check it unless you want to. I do it because to be safe. You only need to do whatever works for you.

Shipping to the address on the PP payment has you covered for Seller Protection in BOTH Ebay and PP. 99% of the time, the addresses are the same.

But if you ship to an address in Ebay that is different from the PP address, you will only be covered in Ebay.

FYI You can have all kinds of gift addresses in your PP account that you can select from when making a payment. It does NOT have to be the primary address on PP.

That's exactly how it used to work. Now I am being told that ebay added addresses will populate into Paypal. I'm not so sure about that.

$379 is nothing to sneeze at potentially losing, PLUS the item. If it were me, I'd cancel immediately, reason being problem with address, refund any payment made. Yes. You may get ebay defect, but comparatively, not even close to losing $$$ and item!

So you are saying the eBay gift address does or does not populate into PayPal?

I said that they paypal address is the one that matters when a buyer files an INR through paypal. If they file it through ebay, then the ebay ship to address must match, and it doesn't always match the paypal address.
I always ship to the paypal address, unless the buyer put in a different address in ebay but, the item is not high value.
Buyers will add different ship to addresses in ebay without adding different ship to addresses in paypal, therefore being able to win an INR case through paypal.

If they add an address in ebay, and select that address as the ship-to when they check out, that's the address that gets passed to PP and thats where you ship to.

The ONLY exception is if they send an ebay message AFTER payment to ship somewhere else, then you are (supposedly) covered by ebay but not by paypal.

The PayPal transaction record accumulates all details of the transaction, including the address selected by the buyer for shipment, and the tracking number generated for it when the label was printed. You as the buyer can't file an Item Not Received dispute for some different address, only the one on record for that transaction. The seller will receive that address with the payment notification.

I didn't see anyone stating this. If you put an address in ebay you want something shipped to and then pay without choosing that again choosing that address in paypal, then it will be shipped to the wrong address.

Technically a buyer can add any address they wish into ebay but this will be overriden by whatever address is chosen in paypal when they pay. I can't pay in ebay without being directed to paypal and paypal is where you choose the ship to address. Then whatever address you choose is populated to ebay for label printing. Many buyers forget to choose the address they want in paypal which causes problems. An ebay address will not overide the paypal ship to address.
