I just purchased the basic store subscription yesterday and of course, I have a buyer make a purchase, then ask me to cancel the order, saying. the purchase "won't make it in time." Buyer is from Los Angeles, I'm in Wyoming. The method of delivery is plainly stated, as is my no return policy on this item. I hadn't even got my store set up yet. I still haven't. I'm trying to figure it all out and I'm trying not to make mistakes, although I know they will happen. So, a number of questions arise from this scenario. I don't mind granting the cancellation, although it doesn't necessarily make me happy. However, I'm new to the game here and I don't want negative feedback. I don't understand how a purchase is made by an adult and only then do they realize the item will not arrive in time. I buy things online daily and the first thing I look at is price, where the item is coming from and the estimated arrival, of course. eBay policy says I don't have to grant the cancellation. This has kept me up all night worried and it's a $30 transaction. I don't want any defects on my account and I just moved up to the store as I made the decision to commit to doing this. It's probably not a big deal, but part of me wonders if the buyer completed the transaction and found the item cheaper after he paid for it. There was no personal message. The request said, "Won't make it in time." That's all. No e-mail...nothing. I understand making a mistake, but if that's me, I'm emailing the seller personally and I'm going to apologize for the inconvenience, probably buy something else from them to make up for it and show a lot of gratitude if the seller grants the cancellation. This buyer has messed me up oin my first day. I barely have my profile in the works as far as logos and banners and such and am trying to figure out how this works. I'm inclined to print the label and photograph every step to show the item being shipped as described so if the buyer does initiate a return I have a leg to stand on. This seems like a lose-lose situation for me, not only concerning my reputation as a seller, but it also looks like I'm going to actually lose money if I grant the cancellation. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you!
Mike

Buyers ask to cancel all the time.
Sometimes with good reasons.
Sometimes with bad reasons.
Sometimes with no reason at all.
My advice to you is to just cancel and move on.
You don't want to "force" a sale as it can and probably will result in a return.
Good luck on your new store!

Wow, you are way overthinking this. Just cancel the transaction; be sure to choose "Buyer requested" as the reason. You will lose 30 cents.

Thanks for the reply. As long as it doesn't reflect poorly on me, I have to problem with cancelling the order. I haven't printed a slip yet. I'm just stepping very lightly because I've seen some horror stories from sellers making decisions with good intentions and getting disastrous results. If it's just a $.30 transaction fee, I suppose that's the cost of doing business and I'm not going to get wound up over that. Also there was a note that said "unable to relist" next to the item? It's just an ink cartridge, so I guess I just delete it and make a new listing and walk on. I honestly have no issue with granting the cancellation. Sounds like you've been through this a time or two. That's a big reason I purchased the subscription is the access to people with the experience to help out in a pinch. I don't have enough transactions or feedback to deal with the fallout from any negativity. Thanks again for the solid advice. Greatly appreciated!

That "Unable..." message might disappear after you do the cancellation. If that doesn't work, try "Sell similar." You shouldn't have to start over from scratch.
These boards are open to everyone; you don't have to have a store to participate. Quite a few of the posts are from new sellers, or from members who haven't even started selling yet.

Since you are a new seller........one of the hardest things in dealing with others is to learn that not everyone thinks/acts the same way you would. Doesn't mean you/they are wrong....

Just cancel the sale. Use the reason "buyer cancelled" when asked. You don't get penalized for it. If however you decide to stick to your guns and ship it anyways because of your "no returns" policy, you are going to get it returned or refunded without return and possibly end up with a negative feedback.
If you do as the buyer asks and cancel, your odds of a negative feedback are next to none.
