Can eBay Support Unlock the X4 Restriction?

When creating variations, it looks like there's an X4 restriction.

If I contact eBay support, can they unlock it? Has anyone had experience unlocking it?

If so, could you share the conditions or requirements?

Personally, I would like them to be stricter on the variations rather than unlock restrictions.

There were many sellers that were pulling a bait and switch type of listing.  They would list a small, insignificant item at a very low price that would be vaguely related to the listing title as one variation and then the real item at a high price.  They would do this to get noticed in search and lowest price searches.   

Potential buyers would open these listings to find that the item they were searching for was actually much higher than the listing teased, and it was not a good experience. 

I have found over time that the variation listings are often misused and perhaps misunderstood by sellers.    

Before eBay offered variation listings, I begged them to allow us to list that way.  Now I rarely use them.

I agree.  I don't understand why they took out the restrictions in this policy, but they did a couple years ago or more.  It made no sense to me then and it still doesn't.
