Your Item Arrives by Christmas! Guaranteed by who?

I have started to notice this on some items selling. I saw one on mine and like no I didn't say that.

Arriving before Christmas...this is the busy Christmas season and I rather think there is no guarantee when it arrives and I wouldn't do it and wonder why eBay is saying that. I think we all need to look at what we are selling and see that "arrives by Christmas". That's an open loop hole for refunds..

Ebay shouldn't be guaranteeing anything. It's simply an ad venue, nothing more. It shouldn't be offering a money back guarantee on anything sold because none of the products sold nor the money involved in the transaction is Ebay's. It's a well-known fact that manufacturers will not honor a factory warranty on products sold on this platform because Ebay isn't an authorized retailer.  Because Ebay doesn't sell anything, they simply provided a venue to facilitate a sale. Ebay isn't shipping anything and has no more control than sellers once an item is in transit. They shouldn't be imposing "standards" on sellers unless sellers can impose equivalent standards on Ebay for the only service that it provides.

I’ve noticed this as well, they are “guaranteeing delivery by Christmas”? Or what? I’m not guaranteeing anything, why are they?

Sounds like an eBay promo.   They offer it, they will refund or supply coupons for late arrival not the seller.

I had an INR filed yesterday for stamps I mailed on Monday December 3rd.

According to the tracking the USPS let it gather dust for 9 days after I mailed it.

I've been complaining to ebay for 10 years about being judged by the USPS

and their poor performance.

All I see on some listings (Not yours) say "In time for the holidays." I don't see that as a guarantee.  I see this on all listings with a last estimated delivery date before Dec 25

Time was, not so many years back eBay did have such a program.   As long as the seller shipped within the handling time they were sort of covered. eBay backed it, but eventually saw the folly in such, and gave it up. It wasn't just Christmas time.

It's eBay's calculation, just ship by your handling time and in most cases, it will get there by Christmas. you should have no worry if you stick to your handling time and your shipping method on the listing.

9 days to get there by Saturday 12/23 (starting tomorrow) and their algorithm that they use shows what your 'average delivery time' has been.

It's ALL the rage today (hear the Etsy commercials)- Better to say it's 'guaranteed' and 95% do get there on time....than to just 'ignore' the competition (I'm thinking like a CEO of a Mega Billion $$ company).

Not much different than Ford figured it was cheaper to pay off a few deaths in the Pinto than to recall 3,000,000 of them.

The ONLY thing you can do about it, going forward, is to change your handling time to 10 days....

Yes Ebay does impose  somewhat arbitrary "standards" all sellers. Failure to adhere to these standards results in higher fees, restriction, suspensions and banned forever.  Sellers can't appeal to Ebay

Did you know that sellers can also impose arbitrary standards on Ebay? YES! Failure on Ebay to meet sellers standards in quality services provided will results in sellers banning Ebay from being their middleman to sell their items to potential buyers. It's called taking our business elsewhere. No opportunity for Ebay to appeal to sellers.

They have that every year...I always ship in one day or same day depending on time of the sale...ebay just guesstimates by your handling time....I notice that only the fast and free items have that,  on my items where I charge shipping it doesn't say arrives before Christmas

Related story.

I sold a item Sunday.  It went out Monday morning.

Later Monday I get a message from the customer...

"What do you mean it wont be here until after Christmas?

I bought this as a Christmas present!"

I replied back and asked her who said it wouldn't be there until after Christmas?

The customer replied "I think it was the USPS."

That can't be.

She's obviously confused.

Makes me wonder where/who she got that information from.

I know the USPS has their own set of deadlines for mail to arrive by xmas

but their deadlines always seem a bit conservative.

I'm thinking that a more realistic  deadline to get something to the customer

before xmas vis USPS GA would be Saturday 12-16-23.
