I can’t believe some of the things “buyers” try on eBay!
I get a email saying item was crushed when opened. They sent a picture of a hot wheels car with a crushed roof. Tires/wheels were fine. Buyer wants a refund.
This is 4-1/2 MONTHS after shipping and over 4 months that tracking shows delivery. No pictures of the package either. I just can’t believe this! For one thing, it would take a hammer blow to crush that roof! Sale was less than $10.
SOMEBODY please help me understand!

You answered yourself on the first line of your post.
"I can’t believe some of the things “buyers” try on eBay!"
I he submits a claim, just follow through with the prompts. Buyer is way past eBay MBG, but that doesn't mean he can try a chargeback. All for $10.00
I will just ignore and move on. Put buyer on your BBL. Heck, even no B&M store will accept a return after 4 months. Maybe buyer should claim against manufacturer due to faulty toy that does not last.

I'd ignore that. Delete the message and do not reply to the buyer.
If eBay sends you any messages (claim, or request)...just answer with the tracking number.
AND, for future reference. Anytime a buyer does this, or files a request or claim? ALWAYS check the date the item sold prior to answering

Sorry you are dealing with what appears to be a less than honest buyer. Surely most buyers would file a claim immediately after receiving a damaged item.
Did the buyer open a claim against you?
If so, you may want to block the buyer if you have not yet done so and refund him/her if they opened a claim.
Frustrating to say the least when having to deal with this situation but it could be worse. The buyer might file a charge back against you through his/her credit card company. If they used a credit card to pay and file a chargeback it can cost you $22 or more plus the buyer will get a refund plus get to keep the damaged hot wheels.
Best wishes.

Just decline it.
