Product shipped a couple days ago and should be delivered any time...

I get it that in this scenario original shipping it out the window, that is unpleasant but so is needing to call eBay to remove a mega-defect. I feel strongly that it's not worth dwelling on an unpleasant experience just to maybe save a few bucks, better to move on and spend the time doing something to generate new sales to cover your losses.
That has been the subject of much discussion over the years. But there is a way to avoid that without filing a cancellation. BEFORE you refund, make sure that there is a clear message between you and the buyer outlining what you are doing, why and that the buyer accepts this refund is fine. That will prevent any defect.
"...if there is communication present on eBay to explain the refund, an Out Of Stock defect will not be recorded. " This is a partial quote from Trinton in post #45 in the thread linked below.

The customer requested to cancel AFTER the label was created but BEFORE it was shipped.
Are you sure canceling the order is an option after a label has been printed and the status is "shipped"?
That option wasn't available for me. I had to contact customer service.
Cancellation remains an option throughout the transaction. it may not be the right function to use, but it remains available.
