Buyer opened return request for "Changed my mind" if I decline can he leave neg FB?

I don't accept returns.  His reason is, 'Changed my mind." And under comments he wrote, "Attempted to cancel it before it shipped but eBay wouldn’t let me. I never even opened it." It was sold with free shipping which cost me $4. If I decline, can he leave negative feedback? If so, can I get it removed with the reasons and comments he said?

Yes.

FB is the opinion of the buyer on how the transaction went from his point of view.

Tell him to return the item for a refund.

If he does, you have the item to resell.

If he doesn't, don't refund.

If he returns it on his own dime, you are out some time and $4.00. Less than the price of a medium latte.

If he opens an eBay Dispute, you will be required to send him a return shipping label and/or refund.

If you send the return shipping label, you are out $8 . Add a muffin to your coffee order.

When he uses the label, refund on return.

Relist, resell.

If he doesn't use the label, and the item is not returned, don't refund.

If you refuse to send a label in an eBay dispute, you lose the Dispute, lose the product, are forced to refund (eBay and PP have your permission to charge you fees, including dispute losses), and win a Defect.

Defects can lead to higher fees, restrictions on the number and value of your listings, and even a closed selling account.

For four dollars.

He can't open a dispute, he wants to return for buyers remorse.

Yes he can leave a negative. It is POSSIBLE ebay would remove it, but no guarantee.

This is one reason why I do not offer free shipping.

Since you do not offer returns, you can deny it.

I don't know where the other responder got that he can open "not as described" since he already opened the return as changed mind.

The message from Ebay says, The buyer requested a return, but you're not obligated to accept a return for this item. If this is the case, and I declined, why would the buyer be allowed to leave negative feedback for buyers remorse? And if he does, why wouldn't its removal be pretty likely? If returns for buyer remorse aren't required to be accepted by no return sellers, why would negative feedback resulting from it be allowed?

All would depend upon what the buyer wrote if leaving a Neg.

They could just write "bad experience".  Your chances of getting that read/reviewed/deleted are likely on the very low side.

PP, CC would be an avenue for a determined buyer.  Not saying it would happen, just that it could happen.

Last "remorse" return request that I had was accepted. Call me "chicken".  Just felt that it was better to eat the original shipping that was included in the item price than to "press my luck".

I got the item back, and bumped the asking price up a bit when relisting.

Depends on what he says in the feedback?

If it doesn't violate the feedback policy, probably not.

If the buyer wanted to cancel the order before it was shipped, I would have canceled the order.

Have a great day.

So if, according to Ebay policy, I can deny the return, the buyer can then neg you for doing so? What if I agree to the return? They can still leave a neg?

I understand your frustration about customer wanting to return item for "no good reason".   However, you must understand that with EBAY there is really no such thing as "no returns".    EBAY has money back guarantee so customer can returns items just be claiming "not as described or defective" (without any proof).   Also, if you refuse return customer can just "reverse charges" with their credit card company.

EBAY will not remove negative feedback so it is always better to just graciously accept returns.

That is incorrect. Buyer didn't say the item was defective or not as described, buyer just changed their mind. That would be a remorse return. Ebay doesn't require sellers to accept returns for that.

That is true - but they can still leave FB.  Your point about them being able to leave FB either way is true also.  We accept returns for any reason to just avoid this type of dilemma.  Darned if you do and darned if you do not.

Whatever happened to the re-stocking fee percentage we used to impose when running into this sort of situation?  The 20% re-stocking fee covered my shipping & labor expenses that satisfied the curiosity of the feeble minded buyers.   Was it another eBay "enhancement" to the buyer experience that re-stocking fees went away?  If I am missing it in my listings, please enlighten me.  Thanks!

First you asked about whether he could leave negative feedback at all.

Now you are changing your question to propose hypothetical content for that feedback.

IMHO you are trying to move the goalposts in order to get the answer you want to hear.

No one at eBay is going to investigate all the buyer's messages and try to infer the intent of the feedback.

Re-stocking fees went by the wayside sometime back.
