Buyer didn’t read description

Hello,

I recently sold a PC part. specifically an MSI GeForce RTX 3070 Ti. The buyer sent me a message stating he didn’t read the description and wants to return it. Do I have to accept it?

Re: Buyer didn’t read description

They just sent me a message that they didn’t fully read the description. It was a brand new item

@konlagrigsb0

The listing shows SOLD 26 July.  Has it even arrived to the buyer?

Since they have NOT filed any sort of return request, I suggest that you do NOTHING at this point, and wait until they file a formal eBAy claim.  Right now it sounds like they are just "shaking" the newbie tree to see what falls out.

You could reply to the "buyer" saying  that the item has already been shipped, and they can mark it "return to sender" when it arrives. Then you will gladly refund when it comes back.

Again, to what city/state did you send this?

Re: Buyer didn’t read description

Ask your buyer to open a return citing reason" Changed my mind" and that you would accept the return.

Your buyer will be required to send the item back at his expense and on receipt of item you issue a refund.

If you message your buyer that you will not accept a return and he is determined to return the item then there is nothing you can do as he can open a SNAD return and you have no choice but to accept the return and provide a pre paid return label to buyer.

Buyer is not required to justify or explain his reason for return and what he has stated in his message as also not considered therefore IMHO it is always better to co-operate with buyer and hope that they return the item in same condition as sold and seller ends up loosing outgoing post+$0.30 and not the whole amount.

Re: Buyer didn’t read description

Excellent response if the buyer simply refuses the shipment and returns to sender everyone will avoid the return shipping cost. Once you have the item back I would refund the buyer the purchase price minus your original shipping cost.

Re: Buyer didn’t read description

Not a seller here, but I would go ahead and accept the return. Those cards sell here for $1000-1100, so you wouldn't get hurt much compared to the headaches you could be easily in store for if you try to refuse.

I may be wrong, but if he files as "Buyer Remorse", doesn't he have to pay return shipping?

In any case, he was honest if inattentive, and you know he's willing to spend $1000+ here, so I'm not sure about adding him to your BBL. Doesn't sound like a bad buyer, and if you make it easy for him he might buy from you in the future.

In pretty much every other store on planet earth, an opened PC card is not returnable.....but on eBay, it is....

Re: Buyer didn’t read description

Next time include in your item description "no returns if item is opened".

I don't think this would protect you from a return item request.   eBay is pretty solid in the buyer's corner at the moment.

Have I missed something here?  Has the buyer filed a "return request" or is the buyer simply messaging the seller?

@konlagrigsb0

Please clarify if a case was filed AND to what city/state did you ship this item?

OP wrote "The buyer sent me a message" - I merely suggested that it would be easiest to simply take the return and suggest the buyer file a case (changed mind or whatever).  eBay is not backing up seller's no-return policies and buyers can simply perform end-runs around them.

Re: Buyer didn’t read description

One must always accept a request for a return.  But that is the least of your worries.  You have no feedback and you sold a $1,000 computer part favored by young male gamers.  You are the one being played.  Trust me, the buyer knew exactly what he was purchasing and what you sold will not be the item returned.

And cut your losses further by removing your listing for that lot of cards as that too will be of interest to the young male scammers.

@oneblindcat

THERE HAS BEEN NO RETURN REQUEST MADE.  The buyer is simply "messaging" the seller.   There is NO return to "accept" at this point.  The item has likely not even arrived yet.

Re: Buyer didn’t read description

@konlagrigsb0- That's an expensive high-scam item and you're a newbie with zero feedback. I truly hope this doesn't turn out to be an expensive lesson- it's great that you came here for advice before responding.

ittybitnot posed some great questions above- like does the tracking show that the package arrived? To what city/state was it shipped? That information can help us offer you more specific advice.

Come back here with a response to those questions- as long as it wasn't shipped to a freight forwarder (which sellers here can help you figure out)- I would start by replying to the buyer with a question but not addressing their return request (yet). If and only if the tracking confirms that it was delivered and that it wasn't shipped to a freight forwarder- I would ask the buyer if the product packaging was opened. Nothing more, nothing less. But before you do that let us know about tracking and location.

Re: Buyer didn’t read description

Nobody is returning one of those video cards. They are in extreme demand.  He can list it on eBay and sell it in seconds.

Deny the return and tell him to sell it on eBay.

If it was a regular consumer item under $200 I would advise to just accept the return but something like this smells fishy. How can you not read the ad? The title says enough.

Re: Buyer didn’t read description

I got one today too.  Listing states 4x that it's for reds and the picture shows reds. Buyer wants to return (even though they haven't gotten it yet) because they thought it was for blonds.  Yeah, there's a single listing for that warm blonde and it's $90 AND it's not my listing.

I haven't decided what to do yet.  Listings state no returns, buyer admitted they bought the wrong product.

SIGH!

(sorry to hijack, just venting)

 What would that do in a "item not as described" return?

Re: Buyer didn’t read description

I see your listings state  "no returns".

If/when he files a official return....

If he files a "i changed my mind" return, you don't have to accept the return.

If he files a "not as described" return, you DO have to accept the return.

Accept the return.

Wait for the item to be returned.

Inspect and refund.

@daveo62

Yes, there is indeed something not right with this.

A $1K+ graphics card + newbie seller + eBay  + buyer (that appears to have a Zero feedback ID) * ????  ......just waiting for the OP to provide the rest at this point.  There is no return yet to "accept".

I suspect either the buyer CANNOT file a claim, or they are just trying something different here before proceeding to  the usual cheap trinket or phony tracking number return.   Just my opinion, however.
