I have a buyer who bid on an item. He then sent a message saying he didn’t want it anymore, and to cancel his bid. It’s not my responsibility to cancel bids for buyers. If you bid, you need to be prepared to pay. If you’re the kind of person who just bids and then decides you don’t want something and you expect the seller to oblige, you shouldn’t be on eBay. Regardless, I ignored his request. He then sent me the message above, saying that if he wins the item *he* bid on, he’s going to leave *me* negative feedback. Is there a way I can report this threatening and abusive behavior to eBay? I will not be threatened by someone who can’t play by the rules he agreed to in the TOS. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Report them to eBay for Feedback extortion
A couple of the reasons eBay will remove Feedback:
We remove neutral/negative feedback when:
We remove all feedback that:

The buyer can cancel his own bids as long as there is still 12 hours left on the auction.
The buyer can also request to cancel the sale and not pay.
You should read about cancelations and bid retractions. eBays policies and TOS allows buyers to cancel.
Most sellers who know what can happen if you dont cancel will gladly cancel and add the buyer to their friends list.
Just respond to the buyer professionally that they can retract their bids themselves OR you can just go in and do it and be done with this "buyer"

Just cancel and move on. The last thing you need is a buyer who ends up returning an item. Block them once you cancel so they can't bid/buy from you again.

You really want this guy to be a thorn in your side? He has warned he will be.
Be grateful for the heads up and cancel as buyer requested. You don't have to put them in their place (can you really?) just be done with these numptys. Move on.

They can retract their bid, or you can cancel their bid. Do that, then report them to eBay. Move on...
They can't leave feedback if you retract their bid.

I would cancel and block them, you can't control other's behavior or let it upset you. It's not worth the time and stress to try to do anything else. I've had some real doozies over 20 years and learned early to eliminate the problem as quickly and easily as possible.

How nice it would be if we were always given the opportunity ahead of time to avoid problems.

Click yourself out of possible trouble. If he wins, he'll probably pay........and then claim NAD for a return and you'll end up eating the shipping.......... Instead of being "right".....do the best thing for yourself.

Never try to force a buyer into a transaction.
He doesn't want the item.
He wants to make trouble for you.
Why would you want that?

One thing to consider, that has not been thoroughly discussed by others --
If you refuse to cancel this bid, and IF they win, this buyer will probably open up a "not as described" case against you -- and there is a 99.99999% chance that you will lose that case.
And what is to control your buyer from returning your item in the same condition in which you had shipped it?
Or shipping you back something entirely different?
Or something largely worthless?
Or maybe even something very gross and disgusting?
As others have suggested, put this fire out NOW -- cancel this buyer's bid, and add them to your BBL.
Who needs this much drama?

Just cancel and block them. It's not worth the potential headaches later.

Sadly based on these answers that eBay does not protect sellers the way I thought when I recently opened a storefront. Buyers that do this should be blocked from eBay and at least made to open a new account to get around the ban. My item was off the market for a week due to non payment and report buyer is not even working. I canceled the order and blocked but the damage was already done and other sellers are not protected from this yahoo. Very sad to know what protections I read and thought are there is not.

Any help would be appreciated.
Forcing someone to pay for an item they clearly do not want is foolish and short-sighted.
Why in the world would a seller TRY to get negative feedback and ENCOURAGE a fraudulent return?
These "principles" of yours will only cause you grief on this site.

What would you rather do? Refuse to cancel, buyer pays, you ship and buyer opens an item not as described case, with you being required to send him a shipping label if you want your item back? Or just cancel, citing "buyer requested" as the reason and then block that buyer?
