Buyer With Multiple IDs wins 3 auctions from 3 IDs, wants to cancel since I won't combine shipping

So trying to keep it short...

A particular buyer has sent me spammy messages in broken English, trying to get me to ship items for less (without tracking of course), offering me 25% of my asking price, etc.

He has multiple IDs and I block them whenever I can. 10 known so far. I reported to eBay as many as I could. Still, he won 3  auction items from me, and now wants to cancel because I don't combine shipping. It's pretty hard to combine shipping when one wins 3 items with 3 different IDs. I sell a card game with only a few other sellers, and most of us know each other. I've heard from two sellers about him already, and we share all his known aliases for our block lists.

Anyways, I don't know what to do about this. Some of his aliases have 5-10 feedback, and I don't want to block everyone with that feedback score (to bidding on only 1 item). He uses the same address for all of them, but how can eBay really keep him off? He seems to be trolling, but I don't know. Something in this card game got under his skin and he lost his marbles, apparently.

@egarchow89   Cancel due to Buyer requested then call eBay and ask specifically for the Trust & Safety Department NO OTHER ... if all those IDs are "associated" and Blocked yet Buyer still creates news ones and bids / buys they are violating eBay's Policy on Circumventing Blocks.  There is absolutely NO reason you should have to be dealing with that ... eBay has policies to protect Sellers against that kind of abuse.

If he only asked you to cancel on one item use Buyer requested then on the others use problem with address ... eBay has confirmed this is okay in certain instances of abuse.

@Anonymous   Sorry to bother you Trinton but this really sounds like some gross abuse by the Buyer ... I really feel for this Seller ...

I'm considering combining everything and then canceling the others AFTER he pays. He was interested in as much. But this dude is not just some buyer who accidentally bid from multiple accounts. He's been requesting cancellations from multiple sellers of the card game over multiple weeks. He's not a rational actor. There's something off here.

You are not thinking rationally.  You should never leave unpaid items awaiting payments and also relisting them as a bundle.  You need to end the unpaid items either by cancelling them or filing the UPI dispute.  After they are finished you can bundle them if you want.

I think you just need to eliminate these issues with this buyer's and be done.

I would copy all the buyer users names they are using, real name and address if that buyers name and address show up again on sold listings then I would report them to eBay and let eBay handle the investigation into the buyers practices.

Good Luck Selling!

This guy is bad news squared. If you combine three shipments from three different IDs, you will only be able to show tracking on one of them. There is nothing to stop him from filing Item Not Received disputes on both of the other IDs, and claiming a refund for both of those purchases. Just block this guy as effectively as you can, and report him to customer service as well. Good luck, I think you may need it.

Re: Buyer With Multiple IDs wins 3 auctions from 3 IDs, wants to cancel since I won't combine shippi

Maybe you are correct in some technical sense. But this guy outbid other bidders who already paid. And he is up to something. Had he not bid nefariously, other, well-intentioned bidders would have paid for these items already.

They are ABSOLUTELY lost sales, as they would have been sales had he not bid nefariously. Technically things have not been finalized, but we both know that when a willing buyer is outbid by a psychopath who gives a seller the runaround, the seller lost a sale  to the outbid bidder who actually paid and would have paid had he/she been able to win at the price they would have won at had the psychopath not bid.

But I suppose all of that is besides the point. If he pays from the 3 separate accounts, I suppose I will ship 3 separate packages. But otherwise I'm not dealing with him.

You would need a message from him on EACH ID with his cancellation request.

He could be trying to usurp another buyer's win.

It doesn't sound like it in this case based on your previous experience with him, but we've seen posts about non winners messaging the seller, pretending to be the winner, and asking for a change of address because of some family emergency.  It has caught many-a-new sellers.

No, he does not.  Per Trinton, if a buyer circumvents your BBL you can report and cancel the transaction using bad address and add the new IDs to your BBL.  OH, and you do not have to prove it, you just have to have a reasonable suspicion.

Here is the thread:

and here is what Trinton said:

Hi @bigdeals.etc, as a part of our 2019 Spring Seller Update, we announced protections for exactly this situation. Previously, eBay would have to determine a definitive link between two accounts to offer protections. Now we offer the same protection for sellers who have reason to believe two accounts are linked, such as what you describe. You can report the buyer, cancel the orders, and add the new account to your blocked list if you would like. A specific reason will be added later for these kinds of cancellations but for now you can use the "Problem with buyer's address" option, no problem. You will be protected from any defects or feedback issues that may arise.

With this guy's multiple ID's, he's sent me crazy lowballs, and retracted over a dozen bids in the last 10 days.

Just my opinion, but if this person caused  all this drama prior, there is a really good chance no matter what you do  to try and accommodate him it is only going to get worse.

I would either

File a cancellation on each of the items using "buyer's request".

Or

File the Unpaid item Dispute and close it out when the time is up.

Never ever would I "make him a special listing" when he is a royal pain already, You have to choose one or the other above and have the process completed anyway first.  Do you want to deal with this person for another week while they try to negotiate yet again?

Use the report the buyer feature then BLOCK

If the guy is flaky , then of course, do NOT do a special auction for him.  Cancel all 3 sales and block ALL 3 IDs.   Get a notebook and jot down his name/ address and keep it incase he comes back in the future with a 4th ID.

I already have a document saved with all 10 of his IDs I've seen so far.

Great advice Femm!!  I would not want a buyer like this for nothin'! Setting him up for a UID is a good way to slowly shut him down.

Femm, just a side question...if you rarely use tracking, how do you satisfy the dashboard metrics for "tracking uploaded on time"????  I mean, I don't know how that works?

He's not a rational actor. There's something off here.

You are in a category that unfortunately attracts quasi-socialized highly entitled and competitive troglodytes  (I insert here that some of my best friends....) .

His purpose is as much to win (by scamming or cheating you) as it is to buy the card.

So you have to treat him as such.

Ignore his messages and put every new ID on your BBL.

Cancel his bids, if you are using auctions.

Switch to Fixed Price/Immediate Payment Required (which is more popular with buyers in any case.)

Report every ID to eBay as an unwanted bidder.

Cancel purchases as Problem with Address if he pays.

Open Unpaid Item Disputes if he doesn't pay.

It's a pain in the bandonkadonk, but ..... what must be done.

Hi @mr_lincoln, a seller can cancel when they have reason to believe a buyer is circumventing the blocked bidder/buyer list with a new ID. This can be reported to us for review (here) and we will investigate any links between accounts and take appropriate action.  A call would not be needed for this specific topic as we can look into it further after a seller reports this through the site (though of course a seller is welcome to call us if they would like to chat slight_smile)

Re: Buyer With Multiple IDs wins 3 auctions from 3 IDs, wants to cancel since I won't combine shippi

@dippitydoo

I'm in Canada.

Because of the high cost of tracking, eBay allows that shipping metric more slack to non-US sellers.

I track maybe 5% of shipments over all my IDs and my website, and then usually only because most Canada Post parcel rates include tracking.

I could send a 30 gram letter to the US for $1.27Cdn or track it as a Tracked Parcel for $12.59.

USPS has very low rates and incredibly cheap tracking.

Normally I use LetterMail, which cannot be tracked.

Non-US sellers can be Global Top Rated Sellers without spending uselessly on tracking.

And it's a cultural thing.

US customers are fanatical about tracking and much more litigious than ... anybody really.

I should also mention that my products (books, stamps, sewing patterns, etc) appeal to buyers who like to follow directions and understand processes.

I would not ship jewelry or coins without tracking. Or gaming cards.

But we're off topic. Sorry, folks.
