But, I like Paypal. why change?

I don't grasp it all, but I am starting to see listings that are part of a roll out of "managed payments?' program. I searched for something last night and found what I wanted at a fair price and I tried to buy it. But, on the next screen the message said that the seller was testing managed payments and I couldn't use Paypal??? Really? But, I like Paypal. It is easy, I have a Paypal balance, I have Paypal credit, all because of eBay. Now, I can't use it on this new program? C'mon eBay. You know what I did? Yep, back button.  Why re-invent the wheel? Profit?

Why is eBay managing payments?

In today's ecommerce landscape, shoppers expect to be able to check out and pay on the site where they're shopping. With the new experience, eBay will manage the payments transaction, which means shoppers will be able to complete their purchases all on eBay. At the same time, sellers will no longer be paid directly from buyers via PayPal, and instead will be paid daily and directly to their bank accounts.

That is the dumbest part of the entire managed payments. It will be an accounting disaster for most sellers. It will also result in many sellers being charged bank fees for too many transactions unless they can find a bank that will allow unlimited transactions at no cost.  One big pain for sellers.

At least on Etsy they allow you to pick when you want the deposits, i.e., every week, every two weeks.  That makes much more sense for sellers.

Until they add paypal as a withdrawal option, or at least ANY other option than daily bank deposits, I want no part of managed payments.

Re: But, I like Paypal. why change?

They would not want to miss ANY of the payment methods and neither I think would any seller want to lose a sale because someone trusts and wants PP.  If I am making more money when I begin taking the other methods using t then I just might be a little disappointed if PP is used.

Re: But, I like Paypal. why change?

I've had no problems with PayPal either but I can name one very significant reason why this will be a good change......

It's going to save me a lot of money!!!!!!

If eBay can make some money out of it as well that's just fine with me. eBay provides me with an opportunity, the more then can make on things other than seller fees the better off I'm likely to be.

On the other hand PayPal provides me with nothing much at all.

How much money will you save when buyers, confronted with the sudden need to sign up for yet another payment service, just leave?

Chaos is NOT an "industry standard".

Buyers don't need to sign up for anything, they simply go through checkout as they do today and use the payment method of their choice AS THEY DO TODAY (except with more choices and the same choices from all sellers).

I don't understand the sudden love affair with PayPal, when eBay owned few people had good things to say about PayPal not to mention the much hated John  Donahoe is now the Chairman of the Board of PayPal.

Re: But, I like Paypal. why change?

I would really like a button for "accepts paypal". It would save me the time to look at an individual listing, and if I missed it, the "back" button to get out of the checkout lane. I have no intention of buying from any merchant that cannot accept paypal. I only use credit cards for travel purchases like car rental and overnight lodging and have no intention of putting charges on for a dollar or a few, ever. Ebay started the paypal hype for safe, convnient purchases and they were RIGHT. Now they are withdrawing at least for a while.

Do you get PayPal buyer protection, the 2nd of three bites at the apple, if something goes wrong with your purchase?

LOL.

If the goal is to move PayPal sellers to Managed Payments, why in the world would eBay add features to help people find PayPal sellers?

eBay REMOVED the "Accepts PayPal" checkbox from search:Or have we so quickly forgotten already?

If you are referring to the difference in percentage and no transaction fee, are you 100% sure that it will stay that way and not change to something higher once eBay gets all sellers moved into the program?  Could the current fee being tossed around be something like an introductory fee to get people to jump on board? Sort of like when you get a credit card that promises not to charge any interest for the first year to hook you in? And what happens if Adyen decides to raise fees ... will eBay eat that ... do they have a contract with Adyen that freezes the fees for a certain amount of time?

Way too many questions that go unanswered about this. When it was first announced I sent 5 questions to that email address we were given for questions ... none of them were ever answered ... what was that, almost a year ago and I'm still waiting for my questions to be answered.

Re: But, I like Paypal. why change?

It's unfortunate that Ebay tried to reinvent the wheel without understanding  how the wheel operates......but, as usual, they did.  I can certainly understand the reason-to cut their costs and retain the money in house. which is a laudable attempt to increase their profit margin, one which any of us would make.  If a cheaper shipping services is available to us, we will use it, all things being equal.

Kuppens said Paypal will become available in the 1st half of 2019, versus the original date of the 3rd quarter, so presumably that problem will be elimiated.......how many of the other objections will be addressed is unknown.....  We may or may not get wheels with rubber......

If they couldn't make Billpoint work what makes them think this will work? I remember when they tried to put PayPal in the corner and not even show it as a payment option (before they bought it) and then the boards exploded with the Checkout War and eBay backed down and ended up buying PayPal.

I'm glad that I won't have to worry about it because the bank account I use with PayPal is a savings account that will only allow 3 deposits per month. When I'm forced into Managed Payments I will be gone unless they figure out a way for us to have the sale money sent to our PayPal accounts where we can then transfer to bank account on our terms.

Re: But, I like Paypal. why change?

horses, there's no telling whether the deposit rules will be changed or not...........

I don't remember Billpoint..........but they have Ayden as the backend now, so the money part should be taken care of.....remember ebay did run Paypal for most of it's life......... it's obvious the current people had no idea  how sellers/buyers used pp and what for.......  Ebay just has to learn that part of it again...........sigh.........
