Did you mean:

Be a buyer, not a seller

eBay is the worst place to sell, and the best place to buy, stuff.

Most eBay buyers are bargain-hunting cheapskates who have a license to cheat, steal, and harass sellers for any reason or no reason at all.

eBay charges 12.9% of the selling price + $0.30.  Facebook charges 5% or a flat fee of $0.40 for shipments of $8.00 or less.  Craiglist charges nothing at all.   Neither Facebook nor Craiglist has an equivalent of the eBay police that can disrupt one's sales at any moment.

Be a buyer, not a seller.

Re: Be a buyer, not a seller

I sell a lot on commercial/industrial type items that will typically be new old stock, missing or damaged boxes for 1/2 of new price, without bargain-hunting cheapskates I would be out of business.

Re: Be a buyer, not a seller

Every other platform is so much worse.

Facebook Marketplace. Massive labor per item, constant no-shows. 2/3rds of the items I list on it never sell but then sell for more on ebay when I move them to ebay.

Poshmark. Much higher fees, $2.95 or 20 percent, whichever is higher.  Also less eyes on the items. I have never purchased a single item on Poshmark.  My wife often finds things she likes on Poshmark and then we buy the same item on ebay instead since someone will always have it on ebay cheaper (Poshmark mostly seems to be a home for amateur sellers who are bad at pricing).

Mercari, exact same fees as ebay, way less eyes on the items. I look on Mercari when I want to buy something way under market.

Trading card specialty sites. TCGplayer, Beckett, etc. Great if you like pulling and shipping cards for pennies each, absolutely having to have the lowest price every single time to get the sale and then refunding the frequent scam buyers who claim not to receive their stamp and envelope orders.

Bonanza.

No one shops there, I had been reselling for years and didn't even know this website existed until a month ago. Fees are cheaper, no customers. Since I mostly sell cards I searched Bonanza for Holo Pikachu and got 77 results, ebay got 44,000 results for the same search. I did a little more searching and figured out that my own Magic card store on ebay is larger than that entire category on Bonanza. 164 solds in the last year on all of Bonanza. I sell 164 Magic cards on ebay in 3-4 days.

So, you're saying that you're a bargain-hunting cheapskate who has a license to cheat, steal, and harass sellers for any reason or no reason at all?

Yep, lot of people are..........the question is (to me)..whether  I can make money here with their policies and the answer for me is yes.......  I'm sure it's not true for everyone or every item type.......but for me it's the best place to be.......... If you can't deal with the policies.......probably best to check out other venues....

Re: Be a buyer, not a seller

Poshmark recently changed their shipping provider from Canada Post to Purolator.

I didn’t get angry at their change in policies, I just removed my listings.

Life’s too short to be angry.

@onefootflipper  (Poshmark mostly seems to be a home for amateur sellers who are bad at pricing).

Poshmark has a lot of closet cleaners and individuals who like to sell and trade without the complicated structure that eBay has - it was created for that very purpose.  I sell quite a bit on there, though, and I'm a professional seller.  The 20% is hefty but at least it doesn't include shipping or sales tax.

Agree - Mercari is pretty cheap and but their fees are NOT.  I like to sell parts or repair small appliances, machinery, etc. there, though.
