I am a retired lady selling off a few possessions to downsize my household. I am not interested in international shipping, and resent the fact that eBay opted me in automatically. To add insult to injury, they claim it will take 24 hours for "international shipping" to drop off my listings. I did go into settings and opt out (though it wasn't available on the eBay app). So...theoretically, until tomorrow, someone from overseas could see an item, buy it, expect me to ship it to them (I can't; I send things from home by handing them to my carrier as I no longer drive), and if I don't? I'll get dinged because my listing said I would send the thing? Nope nope nope. Opting out should go into effect IMMEDIATELY, not 24 hours later.

You missed the whole sub-text behind this post. Ebay immediately opted *everyone* into international shipping whether they wanted to have it or not. OP (and a lot of us) are freaking out over having to deal with it when they 100% don't want to, and set the options the first time to *not* do international sales. And now are having to find the settings to set it again and *hoping against hope* they aren't forced into dealing with an international sale when they didn't want it.

When you are opted in it also takes about 24 hours so the likelihood of an international sale is minimal.

I'm having a one-on-one meeting next week to discuss the new international shipping. Anything you would like me to bring up?

If someone from another country makes a purchase from you before you are opted out, you will send the item to the hub on Illinois. Once it is there, you are no longer responsible for the package. With ebays international shipping you are basically shipping only within the US.

Many sellers here feel the same way, myself included.
So...theoretically, until tomorrow, someone from overseas could see an item, buy it,
Correct.
expect me to ship it to them (I can't; I send things from home by handing them to my carrier as I no longer drive)
Incorrect. You would ship it to a USA address at eBay, just like you would for a domestic sale.

With who? Jamie Iannone? Tell him to stop with the automatic enrolling bee ess. And stop creating problems (busy work) just so they can feel busy and fix their own fake problems.

So, I like others received this message today. What happens when your listings aren't showing the correct weight and dimensions? Almost everything I sell, I determine the shipping cost, not calculated and I use flat rate packaging. So weight and dimensions haven't been necessary as I sell almost entirely in the US with the exception of Canada where I do list weight and dimensions.
I have avoided selling anything overseas, due to the draconian Ebay policies with returns etc.
That occasional unethical seller...they can hold you hostage with a return that will cost more to return than just have them keep it or hope they'll accept partial refund. And they could send me their used parts as well, which has happened, and why I don't accept returns, or rather on a case by case basis I still allow some.
I am aware of the Global shipping program, but there were so many horror stories about that, and people getting bad feedback because of it.
As it turns out a fair number of my sales already were going out of the USA already via freight forwarders. One day I received a communication saying my intl feedback rating was "Above Average" for the 60+ international transactions I had. I was like HUH?
In any case it appears Ebay has gotten into the freight forwarding and customs brokerage business. It seems like perhaps a good thing on the surface, but I fear I better add weight and dimensions to my listing as soon as possible. I mean who's gonna pay the intl shipping when it's says it weighs the default value of 1 oz 1"x1"x1" and it actually weighs 10lb and is 16"x6"x4"?
They should have given more warning and they don't even mention this potential issue!

See my post about weight and dimensions. They haven't been needed with
flat rate packages and non-calculated shipping. So now what? I need to edit all my listings with weight and dimensions? It would be nice if Ebay had thought of this and given sellers times to do this.

Typical that someone who does not want to participate in EIS has no idea how it works.
You print out the shipping label just like any other order.
You hand it to your mail carrier just like any other order.
You don't have to do anything differently.
It goes to a US address and ebay does the rest.
So yes, should you happen to get an international sale before tomorrow, you can "blame" ebay.

I'm not sure how they figure out a price in there is no weight dimension info in the listing but they I do see an EIS shipping cost for Canada on many of your listings. Some do appear to be still transitioning.
If I were in your position and wanted to stay in EIS and see how it went, I might just worry about putting in weight and dimensions on new listings for now and for current items that are large or heavy.
When sellers started first being opted in I saw a few prices that were super high and that might have been because there was no weight info in the listing but I don't know if that is still a problem.

That it takes 24 hours to opt in has no effect on the 24 hours it takes to opt out. The chance of international sale is minimal, not only because of the limited 24-hour window.

At 1st I thought "wow", just 58 items on the ID. Why would a seller not want eBay to bear the burden of possible increased sales? Then I see that you already sell many items internationally that are not that heavy.
I understand that doing EIS may not be a great thing in your situation because the shipping then becomes a roadblock for the "international" buyer because your items then fall into the 1st Class to the hub max of 15.99 ounces, and then also have a big ship cost after that.
Where you are able to now have economical (well at least much less than EIS) shipping all the way to the international buyer, using EIS would likely impact your international selling due to the shipping costs.
If they advance to working of the EIS program to a "listing by listing choice" then it may be more appealing to some. The "all or nothing" set up is supposedly being worked on.
There is also the "combined" shipping for multiple listing purchases that is not supported by EIS at this time.
EIS is not a "great deal" for everyone.

"Then I see that you already sell many items internationally that are not that heavy."
No she doesn't, that's what happened since she was automatically opted in and the opted out hasn't gone into effect.
06-09-2023 02:40 PM
The REASON they opted everyone in, automatically is because it doesn't make ANY sense to NOT be opted in.
1.) There is no 'additional fee' for international purchases (like there is if you do Int'l and are NOT in EIS)
2.) Sellers are protected once item gets to Illinois.
3.) Ebay PAYS for ANY refunds/returns
Win Win Win
Nothing to lose.
So, instead of 25,000,000 looking at an item, there are 180,000,000.
Items that CANNOT be shipped EIS, due to weight, item type, price, are NOT opted in.
Then only downfall:
If you don't have a 'size/weight' in your item, and it's LARGE, you need to.... as it could be opted in when it shouldn't be.
