I’m curious how others handle this. I listed a piece of Pyrex it is a rare piece and very little info is available. It got multiple offers right away and now has bids. I received a crazy offer last night for buy it now. It seems that I can’t accept a best offer anymore. I guess I would have to end and repost? It doesn’t seem like the ethical thing to do has anyone run into this?

Well, it's unfortunate that you had such an awful experience. I have used them twice here in central Wisconsin to ship art, both times they did a good job. In fact, one of the buyers complained of "packing overkill". Yet, if your experience was different, then I would be concerned about consistency. Thank you for sharing.

Did you seek any compensation from UPS for the damages?

Thank you all for your help and cheering on the auction! The auction did end above the original crazy offer of 5000. I’m very excited that it is going to a true collector who has been looking for this for a long time. I will pack it as he suggested and fingers crossed it will get to him in one piece!

No, not all UPS Stores pack safely. I had them pack a very expensive cookie jar and it arrived broken. The buyer showed me the packaging job and no wonder it broke. And the $100 indemnity did not pay due to insufficient packing material.

This was thrilling to watch for sure. You have restored my faith in the "hunt". Hope all goes smoothly, it sounds like the buyer has reached out so that is good. congrats!

Well.... 4 pieces, but 4 whole intact pieces. 🤣 I'm so glad the buyer is a genuine enthusiast and that you established quick communication and letting him have a role beyond paying the money. Hopefully this also means he will give you great feedback. It's a good look when high rollers praise you; then people see you're a safe investment as a seller. For some reason the vast majority of my biggest-ticket item buyers just never left any feedback; I even posted about it here once, and several other sellers had the same experience. Guess rich people are just too busy to think about such things, I dunno LOL.
Anyway, this has been one of the funnest threads to follow, ever. Thanks so much for sharing the real-time story!!

I knew it would go high, but that is crazy high. I hope it's legit. You might want to consider taking it directly to a UPS Store to have them pack it incase an issue developes. Let us know how it goes please. Congrats!!
And insure it for the $5.2K.

I'm glad to hear that you plan to pack it yourself. The staff at UPS can be pretty random.
What an exciting ending -- TWO snipers, neither of whom had placed any earlier bids! I'd love to know whether one of them was the member who made that offer, and of course whether the winning bid was above or below the offer.
Anyway, congratulations on this great find, and I hope that this transaction has a happy ending.
I was watching the bids, too.
I noticed it was a "new" ID that won . . . ? a hold out to the end.

Now I am thinking of selling a similar item 😉 😄
Almost matching your Sunflower daisy set 😄 😄 😄

Congrats, jrho!
I’ve been watching since you posted this thread.
I’ve been on eBay since its birth, and have seen many items (including a couple of my own) that started out low and sold for surprising high prices. Honestly, I really thought the days of “well attended” auctions on eBay were done — but I was wrong, and this proves it.
Question, if you will… Did you promote your listing anywhere? Either on eBay through promoted listings, or off, on other social media, to enhance visibility? Or was it totally just left to people finding it on their own?
And congratulations again!

Good job!!! Fun indeed.
And yes the $5k offer early on was "crazy"...and yet that offer was pretty much right on, unless, ofc, at $5200 it went way too cheap, lol But a great weeks work, nonetheless👍

Ooo, great question. Hopefully @jrho2561 will answer because it could be very informative for anyone reading the thread and wanting to know whether rare and high-demand collectibles already have enough buyers keeping their eye out, or if a little boost is needed.

I want to know if the buyer paid for it yet...LOL

I did promote it as I do all my listings. But I question whether promoting is necessary or not?

I have found that I pay out very little in PL fees, but that when I have PL on some listings (I only go for the 2% minimum) that I get more Views on everything and therefore more Sales.
Since I only pay the PL fee when something sells, it's cheap advertising for my Stores.
YMMV.
I also tend to use PL more often on 'deadstock' than on new listings. But all my Stores sell OOAK (sort of) items so I'm not really competing with 50 other sellers with identical merch.
