This is NOT the same issue that we asked about a few weeks ago.
20 years selling on ebay. 15 years same address, same phone, same email. Always got 1099s from Paypal then ebay. No problem.
Suddenly, get two screaming messages titled:
“You need to update your account details by Jan 23, 2023 on file in order to avoid any issues with payouts in the future. Update account details”
We never had any payout issues.
“Let's get you back on track. We need to verify your eBay account's phone and email.”
Huh? If we were off track we didn’t know it.
And then:
Let's get you back on track (again)
To pass verification, you'll need one of these documents for the primary contact on your account.
Messages are through/on the ebay page with a big red banner at the top. This isn’t a big deal at all. But why is it written this way? I’m concerned that someone tried to hack the account but everything seems okay. We even requested an immediate payout and it seemed to go through.

ebay's hitting a bunch here lately to verify accounts, I got hit earlier this month and been selling for 15+ years. Be aware they froze my funds for 3-4 days, if I had known I wouldn't have updated it on a Monday after a good weekend

Yes...a lot of fake emails out there. I get the emails my account is frozen but it isn't. I just ignore them.

I have been getting the messages since I believe October 7th. It is also on my page. I go and do what they ask to verify that my phone number and email address is correct. I get a message back that says thank you. Then the next day I still have the red message, so I click on it again and it says they are verifying the information.
Then a couple of days later they ask me to verify my information again So I click back on it and verify again they confirm I have verified and then the same old story that happened before
My funds have not been frozen yet
Come on EBAY fix this My information has been the same for approximately 20 years!!!

Since they have that red banner saying the same thing, I don't think I would ignore the messages.

I got a less dramatic request because I hit $600 for the year…. yet somehow they managed to send me one of those accidental 1099’s last year.
Go figure.

You may never have actually verified your email and phone number for them. To check whether you have, go to Account Settings -> Personal Information, and scroll down until you see the "Phone number" and "Email address" fields. If they've been verified, it will say "Verified" in light grey text beneath the phone number/email address.
EDIT: And yes, they periodically do ask for reverification for some things. They wanted me to reverify my bank account after being on Managed Payments for a year.

It's not an email. It is through the eBay system.

Thank you for the comment. I checked. Both are already verified.

I got the same today through eBay messages (so I know it is not a fake) asking for my drivers license photo which I sent them months ago. Nonetheless rather than irritate the bear I clicked thee link to upload it again and I got a "Thank you" message. BUT it never gave me the chance to upload it. Than just thanked me for doing something that they made it impossible for me to do.
Curiouser and curiosier.

I just got one of those messages for the first time today from eBay. It says: "Action required: Verify your information to continue selling" I clicked on the BIG BLUE link saying: "Verify your phone and email" and a page came up saying:
"Thanks, we're verifying your updated information"
I DIDN'T ENTER ANY INFORMATION!
Maybe it's a glitch.
BTW, this was all thru eBay messages, not an email.

The messages I receive are through EBAY Messages. Therefore I know they are official. I have received messages on both the phone number and email address that they have been verified. I have looked at them and they state verified but then the next day the red message is back followed by another message to verify from EBAY

If you are selling or have sold New items over the last 24 months, this could explain why you are getting these requests: The US INFORM laws | Seller Center (ebay.com)

Alot of this angst could be forestalled by a simple announcement to sellers that this "verification" request is going to happen to sellers(all/most).......rather than buried somewhere in Seller Central....... Seller Hub is supposed to be where we can go get all information needed to sell......and there is a "Seller Announcements" Section that tout
Seems like we could get info about "red banners" in there somewhere......

Nothing I sell is "NEW" so this shouldn't apply to me.
