So like the title above says, is anyone else seeing a SPIKE in Cancellation Requests IMMEDIATELY AFTER a Purchase is made? I've seen a MASSIVE spike in this kind of activity over the last 2 months. This is very aggrevating as most long term sellers here know that once this hapens , even if you had 10 watchers before on the item, when you relist it NO ONE seems to trust you and will not make a purchase unless you drastically slice the price. This is just one more sad example of bad buyer activity that just makes we want to say #@%# %^& %#&#^ $%^#
But back to my main question, are any other sellers noticing a drastic rise in this type of "buyer" behavior?

Yep, not your imagination. Cancellations up, sales waaaay down. Ebay has become home of the drop-shipping world - buy in China for pennies and resell on Ebay for a few dollars. Platform is all Buyer sided which allows free and unaccountable behavior - this began when they took away buyer feedback and has continued to get worse. Ebay has been under-performing as a sales venue for nearly 2 years now. I think this year they will have reached the negative return mark - I'll check the final numbers at the end of the year, but my guess is that their fee expenses will have exceeded net sale profit and I will be closing the shop. They barely scraped by last year.

Yep. My heart sank when I saw your post and then reading it let me know that other sellers were also dealing with this. It's worse for sellers like yourself that are selling one off pieces that then need to go through eBay's aged system of reclaming fees, relisting etc. Truly sorry it's happening to you. With all that's wrong with this experience as is it's the last thing sellers need these days.

Financial Manipulation
Probably secret shoppers buying then canceling to help make 3 quarter #'s look good.
Since it says it was sold, doesn't really mean it was sold. eBay can report New buyers are up 6% this quarter, purchases are up 12% from last quarter.
They can manipulate these numbers without actually selling a thing or adding new members.

Your must be in eBay jail for posting an opinion about something eBay did'nt approve of.

I have 2-3 a week, sometimes more. I had 3 in a row last week and then one this week where I had shipped it already and she replied to the auto-email stating that the item was shipped. She said she ordered it by mistake a day ago and forgot to email me. It was a $9 item. The climate of people now is remarkable to me. There is no thought about putting someone else out for your mistake. I literally had to pay for her mistake and she said just complained, no thanks for paying for my mistake, nothing. But yes, there is a significant spike in cancellations.
Yes, society today is often thoughtless, and inconsiderate. I feel badly that sellers are going through this through the inconsiderate actions of others. Many don't take responsibility for their actions, it is always someone else's fault as in your complaining buyer. They are never wrong. Sad.

Sadly that thought of purposeful manipulation has crossed my mind as well........

If the CEO & CFO can get the 3rd quarter #'s looking good, it will be like stealing candy from a baby.

Just sold my iPhone and the buyer did this. Said he wants to cancel because his mother in law died (?!).
When I did a little digging he has 33 feedback, has been on Ebay for only a few months... and all his feedback comes from the same few sellers. All the sellers are cheap phone and accesories sellers. Mega sellers with tens of thousands in feedback.
My theory is this person works FOR them. Doing a sort of 'catch-and-kill'. They will bid and win items that compete with what they are selling, in order to take your item off the market and then be able to sell theirs.
