Another Scamming Buyer - Grrrr - They Know How to Work The System

I have been on ebay, as a buyer and seller since 1998 and the scammers are getting ridiculous.  I sell antiques and vintage items and take great pains to describe and lots of pictures.

Today I had a case opened against me for a NAD when it is exactly what the seller bought.  It was a teapot, dimensions given, lots of pictures and now seller claims it - get this - only  holds 3 cups!  This is a good size English teapot and holds much more than 3 cups.  Also, the buyer has had since Saturday and just today opens the claim against me.

Fortunately, I had to cancel my first postage label on this because I forgot to add the insurance for $100 and had to do a second one.  I also let the buyer know why I canceled the first label so she KNEW it was fully INSURED.  She claims NO damage to item, just allegedly wrong item but provides no pictures, just verbage on her claim.

I have already talked to Ebay returns on this and the young man tried to close the claim in my favor but it is too soon.  He guarantees I will not lose out as I do not take returns AND it is what she bought.

How should I handle?  Yeah I know I will be advised to just take it back, but I have had far too many cases in the last two years where I eat the shipping and return costs for buyer's remorse....especially since they seem to have learned that to get ALL their money back an item not as described is the way to go.

Hubby and I have been on ebay for a long time and are small time sellers and not equipped for returns due to buyer remorse etc.  In the past we have tried to accommodate but buyers are really misusing the system.  If they just want to return they know they will not get original shipping back and will have to pay for return themselves, BUT if they claim NASD they get it all back.

With increases In shipping this is getting way out of line.

EXACTLY!!!  Thank you for point that out to the others.

This buyer has already earned her place on my BB list.

There are buyers that make a practice out of this because if they return because of buyers remorse etc., they would have to pay all the shipping costs and just get the cost of the item back.

Doesn't the ebay seller protection policy protect sellers from having that type of thing happen?  I mean ebay itself tell you to check the item out to be certain it is the correct item and not damaged before you refund any $$.

What would happen then?  As I see it, seller did his part in accepting return, whether NASD or not, but buyer did not in not sending the item back or not sending the item back and not using it first.

Sherry, are you will to pay @doubledz-a2z  $99+ if the OP takes their advice and wins the case?

Yep, but I don't want to see any collusion between OP and doubledz.  grinning

Letting a seller keep an item for any reason and then expecting you to pay them for doing so seems pretty illegitimate.

I would guess that if I lose, and probably will, they will give my scammer a prepaid label (which I will be charged for) and tell her to return item.  Upon notification the item has been delivered to me (probably electronically) they will refund her from my account.  But keeping the item seems not legitimate.

I would have to imagine what ebay would be if that was happening.

Okay, but in my case the item does match the description in the original listing.  The listing says nothing about how much the pot holds, just the dimensions.

THAT is excellent advise about the ruler and sewing board (which I have) to use to take pictures.  After this happened I was thinking the same thing.....use ruler.

Thank you.

If this person is looking for a bigger teapot, she is looking for something that holds 1/2 gallon or less.  That would be one heck of a pot and a lot bigger than the dimensions I give.   My pot is a typical English china teapot, average size which is about 5 cups with a little extra room.  The average tea cup is about 5-6 ounces.

This is why I dislike the whole metric for folks here when people imagine things that are used as a NAD in a return. It's bad enough that you have lost a sale, but worse when these NADS start adding up to the 4 % fee that gets charged. Not good.

Re: Another Scamming Buyer - Grrrr - They Know How to Work The System

Hi Coyote - Just want to give you an update on this SNAD.  Seems the buyer sent ebay a picture of 2 teapots.....same pattern as mine.  She claims the smaller teapot is the one I sent her!!

Now makes claims that she wanted to replace her larger teapot with another one and I sold her the smaller one, mine was 5 1/2" tall..

Bummer, I can see where this is going and it ain't good.  Did talk to a rep tonight (got name etc.) and she looked at pics and said YEP, buyer says your pot is the smaller one.  AND, closed the case and said I have until the 20th to send her a label or ebay will do so for me!!!

Of course she wants to switch pots...the large one, like mine is listed at replacements for over $180.!  I believe in Karma.

When I tried to point out that Aynsley says my teapot, the one that is 5 1/2" as in my listing IS the bigger pot I was told that I could appeal the ruling after I got the pot back and it was the wrong size.

Boy, that buyer is cheeky!  And a SCAMMER!  My head is still spinning from the whole ordeal.  Maybe I am just to old and honest for today's world.  Already retired so I think I may just finish up my store time and then send have a few "downsizing" sales here at my home.  Might get lower prices but no fees and no bogus SNADS which should make up for it.  Getting harder and harder to find the type of quality items I have.

Thanks for letting me, an old lady, let off some steam.

Re: Another Scamming Buyer - Grrrr - They Know How to Work The System

I notice that many, but not all, of the helpful individuals offering the dos and the don'ts for people seeking assistance have no listings, and no sold items, associated with their name.   And those that do have listings, for the most part, but not all, do not accept returns.   So...……. What am I missing here? Is the information being offered actually coming from creditable sources.  Replies/explanations appreciated.

The case is not closed @twk and you got the standard 3 business days to click Accept the return and issue a seller-paid return label:

Friday, Feb 15, business day 1

Tuesday, Feb 19, business day 2

Wednesday, Feb 20, business day 3

It is hard to imagine what the buyer is looking for. And she may not know what the average English teapot holds.

I don't know that I will ever have a teapot to sell, but if I do, my take away is to fill a tea pot with water, and measure the volume, maybe even photograph it next to the measuring cup/cups.

As already stated, posting or buying ids.

I'm a creditable (sic) source but if I told you my intelligence gathering methods, I'd have to ...

Well, as it apparently turns out, none of that would have helped as the OP's buyer is seemingly intent on returning a smaller pot for the one they sent her.

I'd say this one's a scammer.

Reality is the leading cause of stress.

Very often people have a buying and a selling id. They also may have an id they only use for these forums, and perhaps occasionally use to purchase items.

This is a volunteer forum. There are no creditable (accredited) members, though some do believe that they have accreditation. Some have an axe to grind, some have a few minutes while the coffee is being brewed. Some are nasty individuals in their real life and haunt forums like these where they can be anonymous, some have years of varied experience in sales, antiques, human relations, etc. and come here to share what they have learned. It's pot luck, some are excellent dishes you will want the recipe for, other's will seem like cracked pots.

Whether a person comes here to learn, to find a solution, to decry eBay, to blame someone else when they are at fault, to bellyache -all will find one or another member willing to comment on their post. But they don't always get the response they are hoping for.

Just want to add to the information about a call to CS:

Ask for a conversation reference number.  Typically they start with SR.  Then if you have to call back, you can give them this number.
