Angry angry angry

I keep rewriting this so that people will understand it and I don't want to be repetitive of others because what I'm experiencing is definitely not just me. This is global, this pandemic that we are going through and I'm not selling anything. I keep clinging to the idea that this will get better, I'll lower prices, etcetera. But my store fee isn't even being covered by my sales. I chatted with Ebay support and they just said Hey sorry about your luck and that's too bad.

I have SO MUCH stock that it's insane, I have maybe 20% of my stock listed for sale right now.

Not expecting a magical answer, or solution, just kind of venting.

This is so upsetting to me. I can't get any kind of credit for store fees or help from Ebay. But what else is new, right?

ugh.

Feel your pain - sales erratic at best - tried offers, sponsoring, lowering prices and it remains the same - some weeks chicken most weeks bones - fortunately its just a hobby for us but depressing & frustrating nonetheless

I have a question about the calculated shipping. Do I have to box it and weigh it and add the dimensions?

Yes, you have to add dimensions and weight for calculated shipping.

Once you get used to about what everything weighs packaged,  then you can guess pretty close and that saves time when creating listings.

Next time you start taking photos,  consider using a white background.

No, not at all. I think that is what hurts the most. I've got perfect everything and they still won't give out any credit for anything, even a small bit. They also ended the chat abruptly which fueled my anger.

@fairydust_factory

Don't let this ^^^ upset you. Credits are not a thing eBay offers.

For what it's worth, I gave up my store recently. Oh, and I'm not selling any less than I was before. 😑

Someone suggested a white background, I would go with photo neutral gray. The red and pink are overpowering a lot of your items. Wishing you many sales.

The number one thing you can do to help yourself out is to list the rest of your inventory.  That is a sunk cost that isn't generating revenue.  Period.  Full stop.

In the time you spent writing this post, you could've listed something.

Also, I'm not trying to be rude, but the background you're using is horrendous.  I got eye strain just browsing your listings.  Use a more muted, neutral color.

You're in a very competitive market and it's summer, typically a slow-down for a lot of products like this.  Send out offers to your likers as suggested above and see if you can't shake a few sales loose.  Also try doing some price comparisons to make sure your prices are on point.

Sorry you have to feel the same disappointment & deflated morale due to eBay's lack of generating sales.  The poor economy is just an excuse.  The people who spend on eBay are made up by a very minor % of the shoppers who suffer due to inflated prices.  In the past week, I have sold over $700 locally - flea market & FB.  I have not even been selling that much in a total month on eBay.  I live in a small city.  Yet, selling around here is several times better than posting on eBay where MILLIONS of potential buyers exist.  Makes zero sense to me.  Best of luck to you!

I want to say that your sales drop may not be a function for your product mix, advertising or slowing business.

My sales are down 70% in the last 12 days.    I presented the metrics to ebay and they agreed that something was wrong and that many have been complaining about the same issue.

So first off I recommend you document everything with the metics provided on your seller hub.   Build a case against ebay and save the live chat .

Ask for a manual review of your account as well as having the ebay tech team look at this.

Lastly.......Google does index your ebay listings......if you are not constantly adding products google will not index your main product page as often.    The trick here is to continue to add products regulary which may help.

Inflation is pretty bad,

Which can be good for those of us who have stock purchased pre-inflation.
If we bought at 10% of retail when MSRP was $20, and now MSRP is $30, we paid less than our competitors do.

We have lower prices in other words.

You could put the MSRP in the description (NOT in the title.)

Have you tried (instead of lowering your prices), running promotions on your oldest items for 20-30% off?

Targetted sales, especially on older stock (and stock with expiry dates) is always a smart move.

Also I always offer bulk promotions, (30% off 3 or more items).

Better three $10 sales than one $15 sale!

I've also seen another seller who doesn't do discounts, instead using the Promoted Listings.

In other words, instead of giving the  customer a 10% rebate, she uses PL at 10%.

Which makes me shudder at the idea of giving eBay 10% more of my sale, but her point is that her product with PL above eBay's suggestion gets premium placement and is more likely to sell for that reason.

Like the endcaps at the supermarket. You know that's not a discount price but it's half empty anyway because shoppers saw it.

(I use PL at ONE percent. I just can't... but again YMMV)

I wouldn't race to the bottom with your prices, I have actually sold items after raising (my italics) the price significantly

Yes.

There are customers who think the higher the price the better the purchase.

It's called "aspirational buying" and it actually works.

Figure out how you got where you are. Why do you have so much inventory? Inventory that is not for sale is just collecting dust.

Bingo. If stuff isn't listed, it can't sell. The more you list, the more you sell just because that's more stuff that people might stumble across and decide they want.
