Accessory items at additional cost?

(Brand new seller)

I ran across a listing in which the Item Description included, "For an additional cost, we can also supply [types of accessories to listed item]."

That would be useful for an item I expect to list soon. Some buyers may already have certain accessories, and some may not. A conditional offer as exemplified by the quote above would be useful. Is it really doable? If so, how would it work?

Re: Accessory items at additional cost?

Because new sellers are known to not know how to handle return requests, and are much more likely to lose their item entirely to the scammer for free.  Your track record as a buyer is completely irrelevant and useless in these cases.

How does one learn to handle return requests?

Why are new sellers much more likely to lose their item entirely to the scammer for free?

Re: Accessory items at additional cost?

You handle return requests by reading up on what you have to do when you get one, and by not just ignoring it and hoping it goes away.  New sellers are much more likely to lose their item entirely to the scammer for free because they just ignore it, hope it goes away, and eBay refunds the buyer's payment before they have to send your item back to you.  Presto, free item for the buyer, nothing for the seller.

OK, thanks. I'm not the type to ignore anything like that.  I'll try to find read-up material.

It's really disconcerting to come across a new seller here who is willing to do this legwork for themselves.

I suppose you have to accept disconcertion along with gratitude for helping people in this Community.

P.S. Lots of search engine hits for "how ebay seller can avoid return scams"; just started to go through them.

Re: Accessory items at additional cost?

Better mention the type equipment it is..........there are some that are forbidden to list..... even tho you may have bought it on Ebay.......people can let you know if it's ok to list.

To forestall return problems, you need to mention what is included (especially if it came with stuff that is not now included)....and the condition....does it have scratches, dents, old belts, batteries?....etc.  Pictures need to show anything that's wrong......as well as what's right......

The best way an eBay seller can avoid a return scam in this case, is to sell it locally for cash.

The only buyers you will attract for a specialized item will generally be resellers looking to flip it if they can get it cheap enough.

[quote edited by me]

The chance of finding a local buyer in this case is, if not zero, very close to it. I think eBay has a natural corner on this low-volume market because it's a national venue for used equipment.

After doing eBay searches on the relevant genre of equipment for several months, I think this is correct. The sellers are generally in the business of reselling items in the genre -- sometimes encompassing a wider genre than the more-specific subset that is of interest to me as a user.
