Hi Everyone. I just started selling on eBay in December. I live in New Zealand so my postage is expensive ($20 USD). I started selling items on auction starting at 99c each. I've sold about 14 items now, of which ALL except ONE got cancelled because of excuses like "oh my toddler was on my phone and bid" or "oh, i'll pay in a few days im interested in more of your auctions! (then never pays and ignores my messages"
What's going on here? Why are there so many people bidding and not going through with the sale? is it becuase of my shipping prices (my shipping prices is very clearly stated so I doubt it) + I have free combined shipping.
I really want to get my monthly selling allowance up, but how can I when I have to deal with so many sales falling through? And how come buyers that do this dont get punished by eBay? It seems so unfair.

Free combined shipping won't help your bottom line much if you are still listing at 99 cents.
PLEASE read more about fees.

I'm not certain NZ has the same fee schedule but a 99 cent listing with $22 in shipping would generate an eBay fee of $3.27 for me. It would be a but more if the buyer pays sales tax. Since you are registered out of the US, I'm not sure how the international fees will work for you so your fees might be even higher. Is there no local market in NZ that you could sell to to build feedback before you move to the Netherlands?

Better check on that.........I'm pretty sure if you change countries you will have to start a new account.......unless Australia and the Netherlands use the same payment processor.
The way I understand it, payment processor is irrelevant. Once a seller enrolls in MP they cannot change country (not even between US and Canada). Sellers are forced to create a new selling account and re-register for MP with their new country.
That's what Velvet and Tyler from eBay conveyed when they were both around. @lacemaker3 was more on top of this topic than I was so she might be able to confirm if this info I provided is correct.

To my knowledge, that is correct.
Once you have registered a managed payments account, you can't change the country in your registration address. So you would have to continue using a bank account in New Zealand, you would not be able to change to a bank account in any other country.
If you can still use a NZ bank account, then you would be able to continue to sell using this account, but otherwise you will need to start over with a new account.

Except they can't change the registration address, so even if they retained access to the NZ bank they would run into problems. I'm also not sure how it would affect any type of tax reporting or what that process is for the countries in question.
Since you have zero FB now and are moving in a few months @lions_go_rawr, the best option will be to create a new account after you move.
If you build up your selling limits within those few months then you can link old and new accounts so your new account starts off with a boost in limits.

you wrote "Remember, many of today's bidders bid on a tiny cellphone while doing something else like work or cooking or watching their kids. Their attention is diverted. They are NOT reading completely. "
That explains why I am always getting queries about if I combine postage, as the listing text clearly states I do and best practice.

I noticed on a few listings that you do not have shipping costs for items delivered to new Zealand.
Buyers can't pay if you did not set up shipping correctly.

I would place a coin or something next to the item on auction. We really don't know how big they are. The shipping is rather high even with the conversion rate from US dollar to New Zealand dollar. So the shipping just doesn't seem correct where the dollar is worth so much more than the New Zealand dollar. One US dollar equals $1.56 New Zealand dollar. So yes, your shipping is very expensive.
