97 Views in less than an hour

Earlier today I relisted some items.  These items currently have 1-2 (bot) views - dismal, that is all except one item (a Michael Kors womens button down shirt) - that one got 97 views within 45 mins of listing it.

It makes no sense, it is a nice shirt but there is nothing special about this shirt and there are other similar ones listed on eBay in fact.  This has been happening to me over the past week: crazy amount of views immediately on some items.

I do not for a moment beleive these are all actual viewers: I believe the bots have gone bonkers.  How many other people are experiencing this phenomenon?

Happy 2018! May this upcoming year be a prosperous one!

If someone tweets your item there is a proxy on twitter that attempts to make sure your link is safe so they hit is about 10-30 times. These bot hits show up as views. One of the reasons to be wary of posting on social media if you have items that are slow moving or one-of-a-kind is that these bot hits will SIGNIFICANTLY lower you Cassini best match score as ebay will read all of those hits as legit individual views without action or a sale and they will interpret your item as low interest.

I am getting these strange high number of views also and I don't do social media, so to me, not the case here.  This has been going on for 2 weeks now.  There is another thread about it somewhere.

I do not do social media either, but I cannot prevent someone from bringing one of my listings to their boards or pinning it on Pinterest.

It is happening to about 63 of my listings.  Funny how it is all of a sudden and I am still not going for the pinterest thing.

Re: 97 Views in less than an hour

What do you sell?

Are they niche items that a group forum might be interested in?

In addition to views, do you have any watchers?

@dande2016

WOW -- 63 of them!

How many listings do you have in total?  And can I ask what type of items are they that are getting all these views?

Re: 97 Views in less than an hour

When items get that many views in a short time it's because someone has posted it on a blog or group where everyone goes and looks and then they discuss the item in the forum or blog.

Post an item up here on a popular topic and you'll get a lot of views in a short time period.

There's just way too many conspiracy theories about how eBay works or doesn't work.

Re: 97 Views in less than an hour

I have items with hundreds of views which started 2-3 weeks ago and my sales has decreased by 50%.

So its not helping sales, and the other thing its all summer things.

I really think its decreasing visibility thats why sales tanked.

Someone else could tweet or pin your item right from your listing.

Re: 97 Views in less than an hour

Sometimes a particular item will be featured in a magazine article or on the news and folks will come rushing to Ebay to see who has one for cheap.  I sold a lot of Russian porcelain after an article in the Washington Post ran pictures of a house where there was a lot of it used as decorating.  It sat and sat and sat then boom newpaper article in Sunday Post and then sold it all in about a week!  Go figure!

Re: 97 Views in less than an hour

I'm here on the boards for this reason. This started happening to me yesterday as far as I can tell. As soon as I listed a shirt it instantly had around 40 views. Then it happened on the next shirt I listed. Just run of the mill shirts, nothing really interesting. I don't post anywhere socially either and I doubt these items are pinterest worthy. The views didn't just go up gradually.

It was instant 40+ (I forget the actual number). Then it crept up slowly to 65 views from last night to now for the first shirt. Seems like a glitch thing or a way of meddling with our visibility. Last week sales were good but now this week sales are pretty non existant. Hoping they aren't meddling for sake of meddling. Ugh.

Re: 97 Views in less than an hour

I totally agree with Klassic*Kids. This started on my fixed price listings last week. I list something new..meaning I just acquired it..and within 10 minutes it has 60 views...5 minutes later... 80.. and this is a run of the mill item.. for example.. Chinese Laundry shoes. But when I relist or sell similar this does not happen... I think it's bots and I worry too that it will screw with my metrics. I do this for a living not a hobby. I just want to know why this is happening now. I'm tempted to call ebay...but I don't know who I would talk to about this kind of issue.

Re: 97 Views in less than an hour

I have been seeing also. I have a pair of NWT Dockers pants listed with 656 views in 2 days..no watchers or signs of a sale.  Did google them and they appeared on the google shopping. That is why I guess.  Is that a good thing?

Re: 97 Views in less than an hour

Same here. 2 out of 6 newly listed items in under 1/2 hour. Just another reason why housework is more fun than listing here for me anymore. That's pretty bad!
