Earlier today I relisted some items. These items currently have 1-2 (bot) views - dismal, that is all except one item (a Michael Kors womens button down shirt) - that one got 97 views within 45 mins of listing it.
It makes no sense, it is a nice shirt but there is nothing special about this shirt and there are other similar ones listed on eBay in fact. This has been happening to me over the past week: crazy amount of views immediately on some items.
I do not for a moment beleive these are all actual viewers: I believe the bots have gone bonkers. How many other people are experiencing this phenomenon?

Me!!! I was asking about this several months ago, and no one was having that problem. I posted some bathing suits a few months ago, and within a few days they each had a couple hundred views. I knew they wern't actual views. The other day I reposted a tankini, and had 60 views over night. The bots are the only explanation I can think of.

Happened to me twice. Then I saw someone had pinned two of my items to Pinterest.

Maybe it'll hit 300 before the night is over.

That's very interesting to know, so you think they could be actual views?

This happened to me yesterday and I was so confused. A regular BR Dress and again nothing special..within an hour it had 113 views and another random one had 75...

If someone tweets your item there is a proxy on twitter that attempts to make sure your link is safe so they hit is about 10-30 times. These bot hits show up as views. One of the reasons to be wary of posting on social media if you have items that are slow moving or one-of-a-kind is that these bot hits will SIGNIFICANTLY lower you Cassini best match score as ebay will read all of those hits as legit individual views without action or a sale and they will interpret your item as low interest.

I am getting these strange high number of views also and I don't do social media, so to me, not the case here. This has been going on for 2 weeks now. There is another thread about it somewhere.

As someone said - if someone pins your item on pin interest - you'll get alot of views or if someone in a forums talks about your item and posts a link - the other posters will click thru to see what the one is talking about.

Okay I get that but why did it start all of a sudden the past couple of weeks. Not just a couple of items but a lot of items. Why didn't it happen before? Not like Pinterest just happened.

Either you finally listed something people are interested in or people who are interested in your items finally found you. Pinterest may have been around for a long time but that doesn't mean people have pinned your items to it before. A lot of people use Pinterest as an idea board now,

I'm not sure. I have had some really great things here in the past that have sold high on auction but only with a 30-40 views or so from beginning to end. The items that have had an unreal amout of immediate views over the past week are nothing so unique and special to warrant this type of reaction.
Perhaps someone has pinned them -- but it makes me scratch my head as to why: I would understand it if they were something extremely special or unique.

I have to agree with you. I am not listing anything different than before and nothing to wow ones socks off. I don't think it is pinterest all of a sudden but something else.

I am with you. I am convinced it's bots but it could be damaging and may effect our placement in searches as it could be perceived as legitimate viewers -- but no watchers or buyers. Cassini might interpret that as something very wrong with the item/listing which makes it appear as undesirable.
I don't even know who to ask about this or report it to. No point in talking to CS, they'd have no idea -- this is beyond them. So who can we turn to? No one as far as I can tell. Just hope it's straightened out soon. (It's happened to about 5 of my listings over the past week .. And you?)

If someone brings your listing ( in my case to Pricescope, or Pinterest or even the Bee, and it is shared by a lot of people then yes.
Same as when someone here asks us to view their listings for improvement and we all click on them.
Also, many of us search new. So something must have caught a lot of people's eyes that they clicked on it. I have seen really great listings have hundreds of views before I do my searches.
