@stainlessenginecovers  @biggymoe   It was part of ebay's Q4 report.

Not really. What was the increase in buyers/sellers in 2020/2021?

"Annual active buyers declined by 9%, for a total of 147 million global active buyers.
Annual active sellers declined by 8%, for a total of 17 million global active sellers."

It is worth noting that an "active buyer" is one who has purchased at least one item in the past 12 months, and "active seller" is one who sold at least one item in the past 12 months.

I don't have the numbers handy, but it was also noted that most of the departing buyers were so-called "low value" buyers and ebay had actually increased the number of "high value buyers".

Thank you.  That is interesting.  I would have thought those numbers might have gone up during Covid

No, not surprised.  The tax cheaters left, so what?  That leaves a whole lot people still here, still working, still buying.  Nine packages were mailed today and # 10 is sitting on my desk waiting to be packaged up for tomorrow.

Nothing has changed.

This might be the answer for sellers who are experiencing slow or no sales.

@biggymoe

They did ... but then started going down once COVID started coming under control (vaccinations, etc.).

I don't believe when people cite statistics over the interweb.

For ebay's short-term planning, 2020 is ancient history, along with early 2021.

I think the large part of 9% less sellers is Managed Payments; those that can't get in and those that 'don't want to' give up any of their info.

The 8% less buyers are busy perusing FBMP and CL trying to buy a $12000 Car for $1800 using ebay gift cards.

The data does not include details relative to high value vs low value Ebay members, a totally subjective construct.  Either way this is not a new downward trend as the past several quarters have shown declines.  Revenue is up but much of that revenue increase in the recent 4Q can be attributed to postage increases as Ebay gets a "rentiers" bump in revenue when postal rates increase.

Wait until 1Q results when the 1099K change will see a further decrease in "low value" sellers.  The Ebay ship is sinking, very slowly mind you.  Alas, the rats are not jumping the ship but remain in control of corporate affairs.
