2 Questions: How long does it take for eBay to make decision on dispute? . . . . .

I'm retyping this cuz no one, apparently, is understanding what I originally typed.

1 ~ Buyer made offer on 2 items, both were 40+% lower than the asking price.  The items got sent out the same day.

2 ~ Buyer did NOT  contact me. They opened a case with eBay 3 days after tracking shows the received the item. They claimed they didn't get one or both of the items (wording obscure, not sure).
3 ~ In response, I told them the item(s), both lapel pins, might be in the corner of the envelope. Told them the items were small, they might have got stuck in the side.

4 ~ Buyer said they threw the envelope away. Said the loss of the item was my fault for not packaging it right.
I think the buyer did get the item and is lying about it.

BUT HERE'S THE UPDATE: I refunded the buyer the cost of the item they made the complaint about. The wording implies either one or both items, but they filed a complaint only on the one. So that's what I refunded.
And then I blocked the person.
I'll probably see this person around as they don't live far and it's a rural area.  I can't do much on eBay without getting banned, but I can say it to their face on the street.

I'm not positive the person got one of the pins. The wording is a bit obscure.
I will definitely NOT refund the whole thing if I don't have to.

How do you find out what a seller recently sold?  It seems that you know what this buyer bought from me.

Sorry, @fredgsanford712... late back to this party.

To make my guess, I ticked on the blue 'View listings' (just below your moniker), then filtered to 'Sold items' (to the left) after the screen refreshed. I just looked for two pins. I found the Teamsters items (sold on the same date) that you'd said you'd given a discount on. 🤔

Regarding your first points... 1) eBay's response (in my experience) will favor the buyer and will cost you more plus get you a Seller defect. 2) There's no way you'll ever know, so try to move past it. 3) I only recommended being proactive and refunding for the alleged 'missing' one pin in the hopes of mitigating your loss.

Admittedly, I'm a bit confused, too. I don't know what claim your buyer has opened (maybe could help with more facts...) and have no idea what kind of dispute you've filed as a seller... I've never heard of that.

Re: 2 Questions: How long does it take for eBay to make decision on dispute? . . . . .

Here is the short version, and sorry, you wont like the answer

1) Buyer is always right

2) Seller is always wrong

3) Don't sell anything you can't afford to lose

4) When in doubt, please go back and re-read again.

You are expectations on how "reasonable person" will act when receiving a package and ripping it apart to look for item is not the standard. You can't show proof that person is scammer. As far as time, has buyer submitted a claim, if not, eBay really nothing to go through. They cannot verify that you shipped everything, nor they can verify that buyer looked correctly, but they will 99.9% side with buyer.

Bummer. It's the Teamster pins, I bet. 😑

Well... the buyer will probably prevail. Is there a way you can salvage the refund to only the one pin claimed 'missing'?

For what it's worth... I think lapel pins should be pushed through cardboard before shipping, too. But that's just me...

I'm waiting on the response from eBay first.

I'm not positive the person got one of the pins. The wording is a bit obscure.

Re: 2 Questions: How long does it take for eBay to make decision on dispute? . . . . .

The buyer admitted to not looking through the whole package.
My belief is I shouldn't be penalized for the buyer's incompetence.

That's on them.
But I don't know how eBay would rule on that.

the person DID file a claim with eBay (without trying to contact me first. Another red flag.) eBay's holding the funds until this is straightened out.

There's other suspicious stuff with this buyer.  But I won't go into that . . . unless you want me to.

Methinks this is a serial scammer, dangerous to eBay.

Anyone can look at your listing, on left side of page, you can scroll down and see all completed listing and sold items and filter to see what items sold, date. There is nothing secret about that.

I didn't claim there was anything secret about it. I'm sorry you took it that way.

I wanted to know cuz I'm looking into this person. It seems they been silent on eBay for months, then suddenly came on recently, buying a bunch of union and police pins.

I would ask you further details, as I'm working on a laptop and can't figure out your instructions on this.

But you seem a little testy, so I'll leave you alone.

Re: 2 Questions: How long does it take for eBay to make decision on dispute? . . . . .

@fredgsanford712  IF the buyer filed a "not received" case,  just put the tracking number in the case and state that it was delivered on 7-31

Once it shows delivered and you put it in the case.... eBay will side with you.

Re: 2 Questions: How long does it take for eBay to make decision on dispute? . . . . .

Too long of an OP, so I will simply ask these questions:

1.) did buyer open a return/refund for 'Not Received' or 'missing parts' or??

2.) did you ship with tracking

3.) if 2 is yes, does tracking show 'delivered'

Also note- NEVER, as a Seller, OPEN a case. That is for Buyers. Sellers almost NEVER win and when you don't, you get to 'refund' AND LOSE seller fees.

  1. Click on the View Listings link on any of your postings here, which will bring up all your current items.

  2. Now scroll down the page a bit, watching the links in the left-hand pane of your screen, and you will eventually see a subhead of "Show only..." Below that, look for a checkbox for "Sold Items" and click that.

I think this link below should jump you straight there as well. It's the address showing in the banner line of my browser when I was viewing your sold items:

Not being testy, just answering your questions and providing some guidance on how to see others completed listing, sold items. I will refrain from providing any further assistance and let others chime in.

Good luck.

Re: 2 Questions: How long does it take for eBay to make decision on dispute? . . . . .

@fredgsanford712

eBay only suggests that a buyer contact a seller if there is a problem. It is not mandatory that they do so. As others have mentioned contacting eBay is probably the worst thing a seller can do. It usually doesn't end well.
