I'm retyping this cuz no one, apparently, is understanding what I originally typed.
1 ~ Buyer made offer on 2 items, both were 40+% lower than the asking price. The items got sent out the same day.
2 ~ Buyer did NOT contact me. They opened a case with eBay 3 days after tracking shows the received the item. They claimed they didn't get one or both of the items (wording obscure, not sure).
3 ~ In response, I told them the item(s), both lapel pins, might be in the corner of the envelope. Told them the items were small, they might have got stuck in the side.
4 ~ Buyer said they threw the envelope away. Said the loss of the item was my fault for not packaging it right.
I think the buyer did get the item and is lying about it.
BUT HERE'S THE UPDATE: I refunded the buyer the cost of the item they made the complaint about. The wording implies either one or both items, but they filed a complaint only on the one. So that's what I refunded.
And then I blocked the person.
I'll probably see this person around as they don't live far and it's a rural area. I can't do much on eBay without getting banned, but I can say it to their face on the street.

Thank you for the information! I didn't know one could tell what each seller already sold.
I been selling on here for years and didn't know that.
I think the other responder might have thought I was implying you were the same person under a different profile name. I wasn't thinking that.
I'm trying to get ahold of the buyer to see if they got either pin. This isn't the first time I've had to refund the seller under dubious circumstances.
The sad thing with this one is I'll probably see this person sometime ~might have even seen them recently~ being they live so close and we're in a rural area.
I even had interactions with the real estate agency they currently work at.
Oh well. I'll have to do extra yoga sessions for the next few days. And deep breathing.
Thank you for taking the time to respond.

They ordered 2 items. It seems there might be one item 'missing' in the package. But there might be 2. The wording is kinda obscure.
There was tracking and it says the package was delivered.
The seller admitted that they might have thrown the item away with the packaging.
The seller opened a case. They didn't try to contact me first. They just went right to eBay.

UPDATE: Though the buyer's wording was obscure as to how many item(s) were/are not present (I still think they're lying. I think they got both pins), they DID only open a case for one.
So I refunded that amount and then blocked the person. I can't have that negativity in my life.
Again, I'll probably see this person around. I'll let them know what I think then.
But until then, I got listings to make.

@fredgsanford712 so what is very important (what I asked and was not answered)- what was the 'reason' they used for the 'return case'.
Also-assuming when you say 'seller' admitted and 'seller' opened a case- you mean BUYER??

Sorry yeah, buyer opened the case. I disputed it. Never heard anything back from eBay, so just refunded.
They live nearby (we're in a rural area), so I'll be able to let them know how I feel about them in person.

You have done well, Grasshopper. That's ^^^ what I was hoping for, and you handled it as I would have. Whoop!!! 😊
