what would you do? Possible return or refund.

Received a message from a buyer for an ink catridge that sold for $45 dollars with an expiration date of 2026 saying.."Only works for 20 copas only."   Meaning only works for 20 copies.    So give them the refund now or have them start a return?   Thanks.

Depends if you want the cartridge back or not. If they open a case, you are responsible for providing a return label.

Plus if they open a case for 'not working' or 'not as described', not only will YOU be paying the return (or might already depending on if you have free returns); but you'll

a.) get a ding for that reason

b.) pay for return shipping for a piece of junk?

Cheaper to just refund.    You could roll the dice and issue a paid return label. Many buyers never get around to sending items back.  Or snake eyes, they do send it back.

Was it a new name brand?  Those refurb, refilled ones are often trouble.

I supplied them a full refund after much debate as to what to do. I know it's part of the business, but very frustrating if you know the truth is being told or not.

I do have free returns. Yep, both of these reasons were going through my mind and I decided to give them a full refund.    Thanks for the input.

They had not started a return yet but I decided to just give them a full refund. This was a genuine HP cartridge and I almost never have any issues with them. It's so difficult to know what to do in these situations but as you indicated, I was debating just letting them start a return. But then if they do, and send it back, I pay return shipping with something I will probably not be able to resell again. And then I also get a ding.  Thanks for your response.

You sure you want to risk selling it again?  Unless you have a printer to test it in, I would not risk it.   HP is a good brand but I have had many issues with ink jet printers over the years.  Went to a laser printer, no more problems.

Sorry if I confused you. I did decide to give them a full refund. In my response before, I was just supplying my mindset before giving them the refund. I agree with you, that if they would send it back, it would be too much of a risk to sell it again.  Have a great night
