need to return an item that says "Final sale"

Hi all,

I sent an offer to a seller for a LV strap and the listing said it would be Authenticity Guarantee. That was the reason why I felt comfortable sending the offer and paying a lot of money for that item. All that said, I received this email from Ebay just now. "We wanted to let you know that your order (below) is on the way, but unfortunately we can’t provide the Authenticity Guarantee you were expecting. The item was miscategorized when it was listed and isn’t eligible for this service. We know this may be disappointing and we’ve contacted the seller to let them know about the error in their listing. If you have any questions or concerns, please just get in touch. We’re here to help."

Thanks for being part of the eBay community.

My question is, I can open a case and ask for a full refund since the item is not as listed, correct? Meaning this was part of the listing and it was not authenticated. The seller also has this item listed as Final Sale and that says I am not able to return the item. Has anyone experienced this? If so, I can return it and get a full refund correct?

Re: need to return an item that says "Final sale"

OMGosh

eBay is standing behind the dam scammers.

There are a few categories that don't provide MBG like  Specialty Services so scammers are starting to list stuff in that category or one similar  to scam buyers.

Because the listing doesn't offer buyer protection you will be screwed if it's fake or not received. You'll have to file a dispute on PayPal or a chargeback with your credit card. HOPEFULLY you paid with a credit card.

I honestly thought all a buyer had to do was contact eBay to help open a case since the item you purchased is a physical item and should be covered.

Way to go. One more win for scammers that could easily be stopped. Instead eBay assists them in scamming unsuspecting buyers.

Was this item listed under 'specialty services'??

All I read out of that is that it could not be authenticated.

Seller saying it can't be returned may not be true.

What is the item number?

Re: need to return an item that says "Final sale"

You should be able to file for a return.

When you get the item try filing "not as described"

Since you didnt get the Authentic Guarantee it is Not As Described.

It doesnt matter if the seller says "final Sale" the eBay MBG works on most listings.

Try that 1st and if that doesnt work file with your CC for refund.

Re: need to return an item that says "Final sale"

I am guessing the seller listed the item under handbags but since it is just for the strap rather than a handbag, they will not authenticate it.  The only listings that are truly final sale are ones that are authenticated. Since the listing was originally supposed to be an authenticated one, I have a feeling that  the system will still treat it as a final sale and you would have to contact customer service directly to open a claim. If you are not able to use the automatic system, you can do that through the ebay Facebook or Twitter pages.

If you are concerned if the strap is authentic, when you receive it you could post pictures on the fashion board as some of the ladies are quite good at authenticating.

I'm sorry, BUT this item should have been shipped back to the seller  from the authenticators and you should have just been refunded in full.

It should never have shipped to you if it could not be authenticated.

Lift your left leg at midnight to start off on the right foot. Happy new Year!

Re: need to return an item that says "Final sale"

I got a shoe on eBay that is pre owed and when I received the shoe it looked nothing like it was advertised on the picture, there are scratches that is not shown on the pictures and his description did not say anything about the defect it only said “pre owned, man size 10.5”. so I started a case for false advertising but the seller has the Item on final sale and I looked up that eBay money back guarantee does not care about false advertising so my question is would I still get a refund since is not the same as the picture or am I completely screwed because is a final sale and money back guarantee does not include false advertising???

@cha-663304

This is a 2 year old thread. You need to start your own thread before this one is 'blocked/gone/erased'

But...if you bought shoes that went through the Authentication- there are 2 things they look at.

a.) is it authentic

b.) does it match what is stated in the listing

Apparently it did so there is nothing you can do. ALL items going through Authentication are listed (by the system, not the seller) as NO RETURNS (once they 'send' it to you, means they have APPROVED it).

Give us the listing number (12 digit number, small-half way down on the right) so we can look at the listing to see what description says, picture shows- then we may be able to 'direct' you

(Note: We is just us simple fellow members (non-employees) that try to help others).

Re: need to return an item that says "Final sale"

There is some good news for you in this - you have the probability of the normal return process with ebay as a result of denial to the authenticity guarantee, a far better process IMO as you are actually allowed returns w/o a significant hassle with ebay. The guarantee has been a significant hassle for people that still get the wrong/damaged items as it normally is final sale no refunds.

But, you should be fine in this situation since ebay itself said the buyer already did something wrong. Here's to hoping what you receive is what you expect & you avoid the hassle.
