ebay return demands picture of problem?

I bought a netsuke (wood carving used as a button) from a seller in the UK.  When I received it, it was misdescribed and not what I wanted.  I tried to start a return, but ebay appears to be demanding I upload pictures of the misdescribed item before it will let me proceed, the start button is grayed out beneath the written explanation of the problem.  I don't know if my pictures could show the problem very well, or even if I could add a picture.  Is this a new requirement?

Due to false returns this is going to go on. Take a photo for the case...

Re: ebay return demands picture of problem?

I bought on ebay.com, but when I tried to start my return, it sent me to ebay.co.uk (probably the seller's home site); is this usual?

After all these years, I'm surprised that ebay is asking for pictures of returns.  Ebay has always been 'just a venue'; does this mean they're going to start arbitrating what is a 'good' return?  Some problems don't show adequately in pictures.

Yes, they are starting to do that becuase  of all the scam artists making false claims about items.

So nice that eBay is requiring photos - we can only hope they will continue.

SO many buyers claim not as described to get the item "free"

I dont think eBay will arbitrate but will forward the photos to the seller.

Very interesting. I didn't know buyers were even required to give a written explanation, much less pictures. Hmmm... 🤔

I certainly hope so.

Re: ebay return demands picture of problem?

I don't want to keep the item, as it is not as described (it was supposed to be a carving of a tortoise and rabbit, but the rabbit was actually a RAT; it was a gift for a couple whose nicknames are Bunny and Turtle, so a rat is no good).  I'll happily send it back, but don't want to be out of pocket.

Re: ebay return demands picture of problem?

What reason are you using for the return?

Does the seller accept returns?

During this test on selected buyers, eBay has acknowledged that not everyone has the means to take photos.

To fulfill this new requirement, some buyers have uploaded photos of dead ducks and boat rudders instead.

Take few pictures and post them here. Let's see! They might be better than what you think

Hi @airsheep

Try 'scanning' the button ... if it is flat enough to do that.  I've read on these Boards that scanning produces a clearer image than copying the item OR even a photographing it.

Re: ebay return demands picture of problem?

I took pictures and attached them to the return.  Now we'll see if the bots at ebay agree that I have a return case.  Since the return flipped over to ebay.uk.co, I have no idea if that will make a difference.  I just want to send this back as a SNAD and not have to pay to return it, which would lose money for me.

Re: ebay return demands picture of problem?

It should have been a requirement all along. I know of no insurance that will pay just on the word of the person making a claim.  You should have to furnish proof of your allegations.

Re: ebay return demands picture of problem?

Generally the claim is on the site that the buyer was signed into when they made the purchase.  It's odd that it would go to the UK site if you were signed into .com.
