I'm having a problem returning a item.
I just got back from the PO. The problem I am having is the item being returned was shipped to me Priority. I am returning it in the same Priority box but the eBay return label is a First Class return label. They refused to accept it because the return item is in the original Priority box.
It was sent in a Priority Regional Rate Box B. The 14"x3"x16" box. No I do not have any boxes this big to put it in and return it.
I contacted the seller who told me it's eBay's fault that I didn't get a Priority Return label. The seller expects me to contact eBay and find out why I got a First Class label. How is that my problem?
TIA

If you printed the label yourself (not printed at the USPS) @long-gone the last sentence at the bottom of the packing slip says that this RETURN SERVICE label covers 70 pounds and 108 inches.
You can affix the First-Class RETURN SERVICE label to any box, and USPS will bill the Permit Holder (that's eBay) the correct postage. It even says on the label "No Postage Needed" etc.
Either take it to another post office, or drop it in the parcel bin in the post office lobby. That's allowed, as eBay the permit holder is a "known shipper".

Just spoke to my local Postmaster and he confirmed that a First Class label of any kind cannot be used on a Priority box. It can be used on any box but Priority Mail.
Just to see what eBay had to say I talked to the rep and she actually said the same thing the Postmaster told me. Shocker I know. 🙂
Basically the seller is jacking me around by sending a First Class label knowing that it can't be used on a Priority box.

the seller did nothing to you
your problem is listening to clueless postmasters
you need to return the item in the box you have with the label you have
please stop asking folks at the post office whats up and just tell them whats up...........you expect service

The label sent through the Return will work. I'm with the others... drop it in the bin or have your carrier pick it up. It'll go...

Please send me a link to where it states that a eBay issued USPS FIRST- CLASS PKG RTN SVC label is allowed to be used on a USPS Priority Package.
Thank you.

The eBay-issued RETURN SERVICE label is just a placeholder to provide the addresses and the tracking number, which identifies the permit holder. The package is treated as Priority, regardless the label:
First-Class Mail matter may only be mailed using Priority Mail Return Service
Again regardless the label, when USPS weighs and measures the package @dede394 it bills the permit holder.
Postage is calculated ... based on the packaging type used and the associated Universal Product Code (UPC) on the packaging. USPS Returns service packages are charged postage and fees based on the STC embedded in the IMpb. If all or part of the IMpb is unreadable, or the package is unable to be priced based on the data collected, postage will be determined by the Postal Service based on historical data, or default data* determined at time of enrollment.
So a RETURN SERVICE package ...
1. can be any box, as the postage is calculated, and
2. USPS upcharges the permit holder for any issues such as a First-Class label on a Priority box
... afterwards, when it enters the mailstream.
*eBay actually pays the same historical average price for every return package whether it weighs 1 ounce or 70 pounds.

Hi @long-gone
It sounds like you're blaming the seller for all your problems. Your seller is NOT to blame for this problem. All the seller did was click on a link that supplied the shipping label that eBay wanted you to have. [Sellers don't get a choice of shipping labels.]
The label you used will work. It is your post office that is confused. There have been other posts regarding postal workers not realizing that they could ship Priority with an eBay shipping label that had the words 'First Class Mail' printed on it.
I recommend you do one of two things:
