I ordered a Nintendo Switch Dock that said it was genuine. It shipped from a warehouse in the U.S. and I received it recently. It turns out that it's counterfeit and I want to return it.
The seller gave me an address in China and told me to mail it back. The return information says the seller is responsible for paying for return shipment, but I am not going to mail it and then hope to get paid for the shipping cost. It will cost more to ship it than the item is worth.
What can I do here to get a refund or a prepaid return label? I have never run into this before with a return and it doesn't seem fair to expect me to do this.

@mikedee0078 you have to open a return item case for reason 'not authentic' and then the seller HAS to send you a pre paid return shipping label.
Go to the purchased item, the drop down menu, return this item.

Go to your purchase history and click return item and select, the item doesn't match the description as the reason.
The seller will have 3 days to accept the return and pay return shipping or refund without returning.
If they don't, return to the case on day 4 and ask Ebay to step in.

I already started the return with item doesn't match description about a week ago.
The seller replied with an address in China to mail back to. After I complained, then the seller sent a 2nd message to send to a warehouse in Kentucky instead.
So now I have 2 addresses to send to and no return label. I am afraid if I send it to the warehouse, I won't get reimbursed for shipping and the address doesn't match the seller return instructions.
The message from eBay says the seller is unable to provide a return label.
Is there some way I can insist on a return label?
I don't see why I have to jump through all of these hoops. I've done returns in the past and always got a return label.
The note from eBay says the seller is unable to provide a return label so I should get reimbursed for shipping costs. It's just very confusing now and I don't think the seller is being honest.

When we see that, it tells us that a return request is already open. So it was bad advice from the other responders to tell you to open a return request.

And when we see that -- seller is unable to provide a return label -- it means you are stalled @mikedee0078 until the return closes without a refund.
Instead, leave a private message here for eBay on Facebook (or open an account just to contact eBay) and tell eBay that the seller is unable to provide a return label.
eBay will put the case on hold for the seller to either refund outright with no return needed, or send cash for return shipping. After that, if the seller did neither, eBay will force a refund with no return needed.

eBay customer support was able to resolve it and issue a refund. Everything worked out in the end. Thanks all for your support.

I was going to say if none of the return labels or info is valid then just let it expire. It will expire into a case you win. They know they cannot actually get the item back so they are just making it difficult on purpose. If you lost said case automatically you could call and get your money back pretty quickly.
The fake stuff on ebay is nuts. I bought a controller that was supposedly to be genuine for a gift and it was fake. I don’t play games so I didn’t notice and gave a fake gift. They should really do more to combat the TOTALLY ILLEGAL sale of counterfeit stuff. There is a mile of it on the site right now.

Please don't tell buyers that it is a 'bad idea' to open a return request. If they don't do this, a seller can keep messaging the buyer saying they will send a return shipping label, etc and never do so, in order to go past the buyer's protected timelines.
Buyers automatically are protected once the return case is opened and the seller does not meet the policies stated in the case.

Glad that you were able to settle it. International returns are definitely more complicated than domestic ones.

Hi @mikedee0078
Just to make clear ... foreign sellers are UNABLE to provide shipping labels from their country. Their only option is to send the postage money directly to the buyer ... through PayPal's 'Send Money', for example.
You did absolutely right by opening a 'return request'. There is no other safe option. If a seller doesn't cooperate with the return by sending EITHER a prepaid shipping label OR full postage money ... then the buyer needs to go back to the open request and ask eBay to step in.
[I understand you've already received your refund ... 😊 ... but wanted to be sure you understood the above in case this should happen the future.]
