Hello there, I sold a pair of shoes they was received OK positive feedback then five days later a return request opened. Message as follows "Really sorry I like the shoes but they just don't fit my feet must've grown" ebay approved return. Now the thing I noticed is they do resell a fair amount of similar branded shoes themselves Clarks etc. And I thought on accepting their offer I would give them a chance 🙏 but what I expected to happen, has after they left positive feedback. The item is yet to be delivered to a post office for refund and I'm now dubious as to getting back the exact items I sent in original box and packaging. If they fail to send the original item's sent how do i stand. I know people say' take pictures and video on opening items but I also see people saying it's a complete waste of time.
Can i offer a partial refund, if I am not happy with the item's returned, or do I refund and then argue that with eBay after refunding.
I maybe wrong and I get the original items back but I have my doubts with the similar brands that they're selling regularly.
I have done dealt with returns before in the past, so I they have basically been checked and refunded and I move on.
But alarm bells on this sale from accepting the offer to now are what I feared. They have 14 days to send them to me I will update this once I have opened them if they return them or fail to.
Cheers

I believe partial refunds are only available to sellers that offer free returns.
If the item has free returns, a partial refund up to 50% can be given if the item received is not in the same condition as the item received by the buyer.

You don't need 'free returns' to do the 50% off thing. Only TRS and 30 day Returns (or just TRS, I forget).
Possibly the buyer just likes shoes, buys and resells when they get bored of something?

Sellers who offer free returns and who are not Below Standard are eligible for this protection
If we are asked to step in and help, you will no longer be able to issue a partial refund to the buyer.

@mybigsale That is old; you don't need to do 'free returns'.
Your track record matters – coverage for Top Rated Sellers
Top Rated Sellers (TRS) who reside in the US or Canada and offer 30 day or longer returns are protected on items listed on eBay.com when:
If the report qualifies:
If we are asked to step in and help, you will no longer be able to issue a partial refund to the buyer. Learn more about refunding the buyer.
I've done the 50% thing and I've NEVER done 'free returns'.

Wish eBay would keep all information on their site updated. Pretty sure I found the info somewhere on ebay.com.
If you know the info is outdated - I believe you. In my case I am Top Rated Plus - so I need to offer the free returns anyways. Fortunately, I only have 1 or 2 returns every 1 or 2 years.

The information isn't outdated, you both gave correct information.
Post 4 shows the information for sellers that are not TRS.
Post 5 is for sellers that are TRS.
Basically non trs need to have to free returns to qualify. TRS do not.
It's all written on the seller protection page but you click on a couple of + signs to see it.

I sold something and buyer said it was damaged with photos showing damage.
I matched my photos which were still available with their photos and sent it to the person and
stated photos are not the same. Never heard from the buyer again and also blocked them from future sales.
And I always stay polite and business-like when communicating.
I would ask for a return. And must have tracking. So many buyers want partial refunds. I never do them. Plus they already gave you positive feedback. You got positive feedback. I would mention that to eBay if they opened a "not as described"case against you. I don't do any refunds until they open a case with me.
A lot of buyers don't want the hassle of mailing returns also.
And I am only discussing what I do and there are other options you can do.

That is funny. Sellers that are not TRS and not required to have free returns need to have free returns for the benefit. TRS who are required to have free returns for Top Rated Plus listings do not need free returns for the benefit. Sorry if you don't see the eBay humor, I have a dry sense of humor. 😉

Thanks all for your response. 👍
The shoes were returned laces and leather branded tag were removed and had to request that all items originally sent were sent back, they was returned separately at their cost, and also looked like they had tried to remove the labels from the box unsuccessfully unsure why. Maybe because they was trying to blame me for sending the wrong size? Anyway thanks for your time.
I can move on now. Don't know if I will add buyer to the blocked bidder buyer list they eventually sent the missing items back.
