Return Question

Hi, I ordered about a week ago an item for $1200.

The sellers listing stated free 30 day returns. The details stated the seller would pay for return shipping.

The seller still had not shipped the item. I had buyers remorse and decided I no longer want the item. Ebay's system would not let me cancel the order. Now I know buyers remorse sucks for sellers because they are out shipping, and sometimes other costs, so I decided to just create a return. I figured this would let the seller know not to ship the item and allow it to get refunded, saving them the cost of two way shipping.

A day after I received a partial refund offer from the seller in the total of $800 with a message "restocking fee." Are they wanting to charge me a $800 dollar restocking fee for an item that was never shipped and I never touched? I tried to reach out to the seller to get this resolve, but eBay would not let me send them a message. I think they blocked me in bad faith? This seems like very poor service from a supposedly "top rated plus" seller with over 30,000 positive feedback.

Is this seller trying to scam me for $800? What can I do?

Re: Return Question

I guess you felt very frustrated by a sellers lack of communication.

its sort of a no win situation that just involves more waiting

its no fun waiting for the appropriate time to file a claim but the timelines for returns and MBG

really need to be followed.

I think you will prevail  with this

And what do you intend to return since your claim to have received nothing??

Bad faith:  You look like a thief to any seller doing this.

Who is scamming whom????

How old are you????

Oh and that is a item that scammer do go after doing claims prior to receiving such items..

You should have waited until item showed up at least to do this.

Other wise you should not have purchased it in the first place.

Re: Return Question

How am I scamming the seller?? I have stated that I want the seller to keep the item and not ship it out [saving them shipping costs] and for me to get my money back.

I decided I no longer want the item after purchasing it. Buyer's remorse is a legitimate reason for a return. It sucks, yes, but don't accept returns if you can't deal with it.

Re: Return Question

I did some research and it's against ebay policy to use the partial refund feature to charge a restocking fee. I also need to correct myself, I believe the $800 refund I saw was a refund amount, making for a still outrageous $400 restocking fee for an item I never touched nor was ever shipped.

eBay Policy

Misuse of this feature

Seller protections is an incentive for you to provide buyers with exceptional experiences, such as offering free returns. This feature may not be used to recoup market losses on items returned in the same condition or to recoup return shipping and restocking fees.

It may only be used to recoup losses when an item is returned used or damaged. Sellers who misuse this feature may be subject to a range of actions, such as losing access to this or other site features or losing seller protections.

Re: Return Question

Did you open a return after the 'estimated shipping date' has passed? That would be a 'not received' return case. Seller must then input a tracking number or they lose the case and must refund you in full. If seller does not (after the date shown buyer must respond) you return to the case and click the 'escalate to ebay'.

Sounds like something went fishy with this seller, so at this time, stop trying to do anything for them.

Since you opened a return, there will be a 'case' assigned. The return is shown in your 'My Ebay' under 'Purchases', then scroll to bottom for 'returns'

Re: Return Question

Yes, 'escalate to ebay' is the only way now.

Re: Return Question

I contacted eBay about this. They said they are turning the claim into item not received. It still shows a return without any mention of item not received in my dashboard.

They said I can ask ebay to step in soon. We'll see what happens.
