Hi, I ordered about a week ago an item for $1200.
The sellers listing stated free 30 day returns. The details stated the seller would pay for return shipping.
The seller still had not shipped the item. I had buyers remorse and decided I no longer want the item. Ebay's system would not let me cancel the order. Now I know buyers remorse sucks for sellers because they are out shipping, and sometimes other costs, so I decided to just create a return. I figured this would let the seller know not to ship the item and allow it to get refunded, saving them the cost of two way shipping.
A day after I received a partial refund offer from the seller in the total of $800 with a message "restocking fee." Are they wanting to charge me a $800 dollar restocking fee for an item that was never shipped and I never touched? I tried to reach out to the seller to get this resolve, but eBay would not let me send them a message. I think they blocked me in bad faith? This seems like very poor service from a supposedly "top rated plus" seller with over 30,000 positive feedback.
Is this seller trying to scam me for $800? What can I do?

Does not exactly sound correct. What is the Item number of the item?
Is it in the listing that the 30 day free return will subject to a restocking fee?

The listing did not say anything about a restocking fee at all.
The ebay item number on the listing says 164936281992

1) you can not return something that you do not have.
2) eBay does not allow "restocking fees".

Listing says Free 4 Days Shipping but it had not shipped within a week?
Seller can do what they want as far as canceling the order but if you receive it and then use the 30 Day Free Return the seller will be out some money.
Nothing in the listing about a Restocking Fee so I would not agree to anything like that.

Seller is trying to take advantage of you.
Seller should just cancel at your request. They lose $0.30.
Do not accept the partial refund.
As you are involved in a transaction, the seller can not block communication with you.

How can I contact the seller? When I click on that button it says "We're sorry we couldn't find an answer for you. Unfortunately this seller is not able to respond to your question. We suggest reviewing the item again to see if the answer is in the seller's listing."
Thanks for your help so far guys.

Isn't your math off. If you received $800 then you are short $400. You shouldn't have opened a return claim as you opened the door for the seller to refund you less than you paid because they offer 30 day free returns. This is one perk that Top Rated sellers have when they offer free returns. You should have asked to cancel instead.

It's not a Money Grab, the "Perk" as you call it allows the seller to deduct up to 50% of the refund if the item is not returned in the same condition it was sent. If the buyer has never received the item, there would be no justification for deducting any monies.

you figured wrong when you filed for a return.you took a bad transaction and mucked it up furthur
maybe it was already shipped....................maybe not
if you woud read up on returns and the MBG you woud have realized you were supposed to have waited
I get that you were upset....you got the sellers attention but you inserted yourslef into a predicament by refusing to wait for the itm to arrive.
if the item did not arrive when its supposed to you could have filed for item not received

My goal by opening the return was to save the seller money on shipping the item out and then back.
If the seller was transacting in good faith, wouldn't they have told me the item shipped and to wait? Instead they just blocked all communication. The purchase history screen says the item was never shipped, even now.
Further, I think the seller shouldn't be offering returns if they can't deal with buyers remorse. It's a perfect valid reason to initiate a return under free returns policy.

Someone will correct me if I'm in error, but I believe that "buyer's remorse" returns enable the seller to withhold the return shipping fee.

But you can not open a return when you have not received the item yet
You should have waited for the last expected delivery date to pass
if no item then you file a 'item not received claim'
You need to follow the refund/return policy as stated by eBay
Seller did the wrong thing but so did you
