Return Ebay sided with me but their credit card didn't now I lose $400 and it item

I do it take returns unless item is not as described.  I sold a $400 necklace to a buyer they wanted to return because "it was a gift and they didn't like it. " I said no and eBay sided with me after seeing his reason.  The buyer then disputed with his credit card saying it's not as described.  He lied. I showed written evidence he lied and said he didn't like it as reason for return in writing.  CC sided with the buyer and now I am out the money and the item.  When I called to dispute the decision eBay says there is nothing they can do. I am now out $800.  Bye  bye eBay I am going REAL after 15 years and all the restrictions and increased commissions along with them frequently siding with buyers I am done.  I am going to buy one share of stock now they are public and attend the next shareholders meeting to spread the word.  Sellers pay for this billion dollar company but they abuse us.

@designersclosets

So to hear you lost a chargeback.

If it sold for $400, how are you out $800?

Aren't you just out what you "paid" for the item at acquistion?

Sometimes it's better to accept returns, at least you would have the item back and you wouldn't be charged an $20.

Have a great day.

Having a more buyer-friendly return policy would have served you better, and enabled you to insist the item be returned before a refund is issued.

By refusing to accept the return initially (which is your right), a determined buyer got backed into a corner. It is probably in your better interests in the long run to accept returns. Consumers expect it, and know how to use the system to achieve it. You are fighting an uphill battle here at your own expense to insist on a No Return position.

Which is why there are more than a dozen sites that do things better and more keep popping up.

Fortunately for ebay none of them have the same number of eyeballs ebay does...at least for now.

Having eBay side with me and then the credit card company believe lies when it's in writing is not acceptable.  I called they buyer but he probably will just keep it.  I'm leaving eBay and going to another platform that respects sellers

Why blame eBay?  eBay has no control over the decisions or actions of the buyer's credit card company.

The credit card companies don't want to spend any money on investigation or lose any of their cardholders, their customers, so they smile and nod and okay the chargebacks.

No matter where you sell your stuff, online or in a brick or mortar or in your own backyard, if payment is made by credit card, a chargeback is always possible.

And, by the way, if the sale had gone as planned you would not have both the necklace and the money for it, so you did not lose both.  You are out the cost of the necklace.

Anyhow, I'm sorry this happened to you.

YOU MEAN TO TELL ME THE CREDIT CARD COMPANY AND EBAY ARE IN CAHOOTS TOGETHER?  WOW

but for real, this has zero to do with ebay, you actually sound pretty silly right now and like a whiny baby.  The credit card company is the one that took the money, not ebay.  Why would ebay simply just say, oh, here is free $400 because we feel sorry for you?  If ebay gave every seller protection against chargebacks, they would be at a lesser stock price than it is right now.  Companies have to maintain profits too, you lost a chargeback, why should ebay lose?

You still have options but it is up to you how far you want to take it. The CC companies are not the apex of a transaction, the courts are.  If what you say is true, and you have the proof they lied in the CC chargeback you can easily win in court.

Something went wrong, so you'd better do that again, because I still see listings.

The buyer resorted to fraud. I hope you do everything in your power to give them justice….

There really needs to be chargeback protection for sellers on this platform.

Back in the paypal days, sellers didn't have to deal with this.

If all they have to do is lie and keep the item the scam is too easy.

here`s the real spiel

you chose to fight the return and lost in the end.it was a gamble but it did not have to be that way

I always advise any seller to take back any item

say yes to a return, it easy to do and it insulates you from a chargeback

its just rotten that they did not have to send it back but thats the way it goes

I have 30 days free returns and its the best thing I ever did to cut down on the drama

your initial case was just a garden variety case of return abuse, many of them are
