Hi
Need some feedback and help.
Had an item that didn't make it to the seller, it is stuck in a hub somewhere, purchased the shipping label through ebay, the item value is higher than $100. Buyer requested a refund which I am ok with, I have been going above and beyond trying to find this package. The buyer was refunded the total amount, ebay took ALL of the money from my account, including the fees ebay collected. I am out the item, out being paid and have paid the fees on top of all this. Is this legal??

Yes, it's legal.
But let's focus on your item. Was the item insured?
Have you filed a missing mail report with USPS?

Just the insurance that eBay provides and no, I haven’t filed a claim yet but plan to in the next couple of days. I spoke to eBay after writing this and lesson learned, even though I was in communication with the buyer about where the package was and it still might come to her. I had to be the one to initiate the return For me not to be dinged with all the fees that eBay collected

No, you don't initiate the return/refund, the buyer does.
You have to issue the refund in the time Ebay gives you, which is only a couple days.
