International returns label

Hi, I’m the seller and the buyer opened a return request that was automatically accepted by eBay. The buyer is in the United States and we are located in Asia. eBay states we need to provide a label. However, this is proving rather impossible.

I tried using USPS, if we state we are outside of US we can’t access the label fill in page. If we lie about us locating in the US, at the checkout page we are unable to pay because they require US billing address and that the credit card must match the address. I tried all the credit cards etc but none of it works. Is there anything we can do?

I already ask the buyer multiple time if we can pay him first but he won’t provide us with any PayPal info and just want a label provided to him. Other companies like DHL, FedEx cost more than the item and shipping. This item is around 300 usd. So we are stuck and eBay customer service say we need to provide a label. Anyone have any ideas how to resolve this without us losing the item and also have to give a full refund?

Hi @motorbikeradiator

Foreign sellers need to provide buyer with the money to purchase a return shipping label to their country if they want the item back before refunding the item.  It’s not possible for you to provide a prepaid return shipping label for shipping from a foreign country.

I’m assuming that the Item Location in the listing said ‘China’ … as the item can’t be returned to China unless it does.

You might be able to buy your one USPS label here with the "Cost: Free to use! Pay only for the shipping labels you purchase" starter plan. You pay them, then they pay USPS.

Another option @motorbikeradiator might be the house of prawns here to buy that one USPS label.

Did you bring this ⬆️  to the attention of eBay?

If you have offered the buyer money to purchase postage and he refuses to accept payment, that is something eBay needs to know.

I had a similar experience many years ago with a buyer in the UK.   The only way I could get a shipping label for him was to pay him with PayPal.  He refused, and eBay ruled in my favor.

It's possible things have changed since then, but it might be worth inquiring.

Re: International returns label

hi, yes I brought this up multiple times and on two different occasions the customer service agreed that this option is valid. Unfortunately, it seems each customer rep have their own interpretation of the rule. All other customer rep said we have to provide a label or refund.

They have proceeded to refund the buyer today even though we extended the time by another 4-5 days in the morning. So as a seller of 13 years very disappointed in eBay (main account is not this account) Losing an item and have to refund especially when I don’t agree with the buy on the reason for it. Maybe time to stop selling here. At least I know now how easy to make a seller “give” you an item for free.

If you want you item back you must either send the buyer a shipping label OR money to buy one to return the item.

There is no other way.

Re: International returns label

It would have to be a priority mail label, that’s the only way to have tracking all the way.  It’s also likely to be quite expensive.

Re: International returns label

Hi thanks for the reply, you mean that I have to ask her to buy USPS international priority mail right? Is that anyway I can check how much it cost to Malaysia. It’s like 700grams western denim shirt.

Re: International returns label

Look on the USPS website.  You should be able to enter the address it’s being shipped back from, and your address.  Plus choose the shipping service, then it will tell you what the cost should be.
