I'm a seller and buyer. I just received an item and the seller accidentally sent me the wrong item.
i went to open a return request. when i selected wrong item sent, ebay prompted me for a picture. It would not let me submit the return request without a picture.
This is similar to how posh handles returns. I think it's a very good step in helping seller avoid false inad returns.
I'm pretty sure ebay doesn't review the pictures like posh used to.. but it may at least stop semi honest buyers from opening up false inad.
has anyone else noticed this additional step??
It's also possible that the reason i was prompted for a picture was because the seller i purchased from doesn't accept returns.
does anyone have any additional info on this new prompt for photo evidence and one can't submit return request without the photo

I haven't heard about anything new but would be nice, tired of requesting a photo

I had to submit photos recently here on ebay, but in this case I was glad to do so. My items were trashed by the seller applying ebay tape to the vintage surface.
However, I have had two need-to-be-refunded situations on poshmark, which irritated me to no end. Puzzles missing pieces. "Show us a picture." Uhhh, they're not here.
I just do chargebacks in cases where the site is dumb as gourds.

I've heard about it, written about it here on threads in these forum pages, for the past 90 days or so. Slow roll out/tester I believe.
I agree, big step in the right direction.

It's been here on the threads.
It's good if the item is insured and they can get the packing and the damage in the same picture. Then the seller can get a picture for the insurance that a lot of times the buyer won't furnish.

Discussed at least as far back as November of 2021.

Seems so pointless to me.
A buyer can upload a photo of anything that they want to.
Still a he said/she said situation.

This is great news. As a seller of car parts, ideally when damage claims come up, it would be nice if there was a requirement for a buyer to send side by side photos of my allegedly damaged in shipping item and their existing damaged item.
For example, had a guy claim a tail light I sold got damaged. This type of tail light about 60% of the time is a pain to get off the car and you have to basically use locking pliers and a certain method to get it off. A non-handy person probably wouldn't know how. The type of damage the buyer claimed was pretty indicative of someone trying to pry my (or his since he bought it) lens off and placed over his broken light.
I guess side by sides wouldn't really help there, but still, would be nice.

@buyselljack2016 "A buyer can upload a photo of anything that they want to."
Yes, if they are a crook.
A pad lock on a 4' chain link gate keeps honest people honest.
It sure cannot hurt.

If a picture on return requests makes the seller feel better about the situation, more power to them. However as a buyer, I leave the seller negative feedback 100% of the time when I'm required to provide a picture for their mistake. I hope that's worth it to them.

True!

You're not required to provide a picture for a seller mistake but it's the right thing to do. Large companies that have a lot of employees rely on those pictures to help them figure out how the mistake was made. (Was it the right item on the wrong shelf? Was it #85 instead of #58? Was it mistaking a 3 for an E, a 8 for a B? How can I coach my team to not make this mistake again?)
Is it your responsibility to help the seller figure out how the mistake was made? No. Does it make you seem like a jerk if you refuse? Yes.
When buyers refuse to send photos of a return to my business account, I assume they're trying to scam us 100% of the time. Most of the time they get blocked once the return is completed because none of my team want to deal with someone like that again.
I hope that saving those 10 seconds to snap a picture is worth it to them/you. 🙄

seems to be on a trial basis: and of course folks just send any photo and that is that of course...

You are wrong. I am required to upload a picture for returns when it's the seller's mistake. Please don't lie to try and make me look bad.
