Recently a customer returned an item with total cost of less than $20. Somehow they returned it with Priority Mail which might have cost $20. This is a stupid decision no matter who paid the return postage! How can I find out who paid it. Buyer's return reason is "bought by mistake".

@dreambooks it is kind of hard to find. I go to Payments on my Seller Hub, hover, select All Transactions. Scroll down and you will see if it says Shipping Label then return shipping fee under it.
Also, when you issue the refund (depending on how your listings are worded) you have the option to deduct the original shipping and the return shipping costs. Were you prompted to provide a shipping label when the buyer started the return? If not, they probably used their own label.
Our listings say Buyer pays all shipping costs. If your buyer gave the reason as Bought by Mistake, they should have been charged the return shipping, unless they paid for and used their own label. It doesn't hurt to double-check as glitches can happen. Good Luck!

Depends on how you set up your listings. If free returns, you paid for it, regardless of the 'reason'. If you set it up where 'buyer pays return shipping', then they paid it, unless it was for a Not As Described Reason, then you paid for it (and will be billed or will show on your MP reports)

You do NOT pay return postage because reason customer gave is "buyers remorse".

Thanks. I scrolled the records and did not find a return postage charge. Also I set up the listing as " Buyer pays for return shipping", so it is probably safe that the buyer paid it.
I just checked the return box and it says "No Postage Necessary If Mailed in the United States". So the postage is not charged yet. I am worried that Ebay will charge me for this later.
I would have refunded without hesitation if buyer just emailed me without returning.

@dreambooksIf you do see that ebay charged you for it, contact them (I've been having good results sending a private message on the ebay for business facebook page) and let them know that the listing stated that the buyer pays for shipping and they admitted the reason for the return was because they changed their mind. We have Returns accepted on all of our listings except international and items sold for Parts or not working. Ebay will force a return anyway, and many buyers are leery of sellers who refuse to accept returns. When I shop the River if a buyer doesn't accept returns I don't buy from them. Many people forget that a lot of sellers on ebay are just individuals, not big companies. Best of luck to you!

ebay sucks, no matter what you do, it will still return the money to the buyer and lower your rating. SO ebay charging more money from seller.
