Did not receive returned item although tracking says it was delivered

ebay authorized a return on an item I sold because the buyer claimed it was defective.  Over a months time the item was not returned and ebay closed the case in my favor. Then a few days later a tracking number suddenly surfaces and ebay reopens the case and refunds the buyer. I never received the item back though.  Ebay is refusing to make a claim with the post office being I did not receive the item. Even worse in just 24 hours they have sent emails to me threatening to send collection agency's after me. This would ruin my financial ability as I have a excellent credit score. I have been apart of the ebay community 21 years and have 5 star feedback.  I have never encountered this before over all those years and hundreds of transactions (maybe more). What do I do to settle this? Thank you for any help.

What exactly does the tracking detail state?  Also, what zipcode was it delivered to?

The tracking detail says "Delivered in or at mailbox". My neighborhood has cluster boxes so no mailbox at my residence.  Anything larger then an envelope is put in a large parcel box and key is put in our box. The tracking zip is same as my zip. I already checked with my mail carrier and local post office.  I asked ebay to submit a claim to usps but they do not respond with a answer.

eBay sides with the tracking.

The buyer's job is done when tracking shows delivered back to you.

It's useless for eBay to file a claim. The only claim they could file is lost, and if tracking shows delivered it was not lost. The claim would be denied. 

File a mail theft/rifling report with your post office.

Check your renter or  homeowner insurance policy and see if they cover mail theft after the package was delivered.

If it was delivered to your cluster box, tracking will say Delivered, In/At Mailbox.

If a parcel locker key was delivered to your cluster box, , tracking will say Delivered, In/At Mailbox.

So @wzshirtworks as far as eBay knows, return tracking shows that something was delivered somewhere in your zip code. Go to any post office, they're all the same database, and ask for the actual delivery address. Yes, oops.
