Can't start return case

Seller shipped me the wrong item. I worked it out with him and he said I could return it. I attempted to open a return request, but got the following message:
"You can't start a return for this item. You have already opened an eBay Money Back Guarantee case for this item."

So I closed the "wrong item" case, and tried again. Same result.

Any idea how I get this resolved?

What reason did you use for trying to open the new case? If it was for wrong item again, you cant open another case after closing the first one.

You only get one chance to open a return case per purchase. If you closed the return case, the system will not allow you to open another.

Allow me to guess, the seller told you to close the original case? If so, you may have to go after this with a PayPal case or a Credit Card chargeback.
