Did you mean:

Buyer want me to pay for repairs.

I sold a pottery wheel a month ago, it was local pick up due to the size and weight of the item. The seller is saying the wheel needs repairs. The item was 10 years old, barley used and in storage most of it’s life. The seller did not pick up the item himself an instead had friends pick up the item. I plugged in it and let them inspect the item before loading it into their vehicle. The buyer contacted me sayin the foot peddle needs repairs and said it will cost between $200-$350 for the repairs and wants me to pay it. How do I refund when they didn’t give me an exact cost? Does the buyer has to show proof of the repair bill? I have never had someone want a refund before so I’m not sure how to handle this.

Re: Buyer want me to pay for repairs.

Did you register the pick-up within Ebay's system that it was picked up?  Ebay's return policy is not to be used as a warranty.  When it was picked up, they inspected it, and paid for it, I assume?  So you sold them exactly what you listed.  I honestly want to tell you to push back, and tell them to contact eBay....  The item was broken being improperly delivered in a pickup.  Perhaps the buyer can contact their friends auto insurance company and see if they have insurance on the vehicle for things like that?

Re: Buyer want me to pay for repairs.

Sounds a little iffy..

Seems to me the only choice would be to offer to take it back, or offer a partial refund of $100 or so.

How much was it?

Was it sold as needing repairs?

It gets complicated and ebay could step in if they complain.

Sounds like you don't have proof of pickup/delivery. Work out a partial refund cause eBay will force a refund.

@stacy_pme w/o proof of delivery eBay will rule in favor of the buyer if they file a claim. "Pushing back" is probably the worst thing the seller can do at this point.

Hmm "The item was 10 years old, barley used and in storage most of it’s life"

Brent wheels controller is a bit expensive.

Question # 1 Did you get and enter the q code so that the item shows as picked up??

If not a receipt from it being picked up??

#2. how was this payed for??

I suspect paying for a new foot pedal may be in you best interest..

Re: Buyer want me to pay for repairs.

Yes I entered the QR code at pick up. It was paid for through eBay.

Re: Buyer want me to pay for repairs.

I had a QR code through eBay that showed proof of pick up.

Re: Buyer want me to pay for repairs.

HOW did they pay? If they paid through eBay, on an item that's difficult to demonstrate or show it works you would be forced to refund if the buyer claimed it doesn't work. For items you showed was working at pickup  then you could appeal the case because it left working and whoever picked it up must have damaged it loading or unloading it.

If they paid cash at pickup I don't believe they can open a case.

Re: Buyer want me to pay for repairs.

QR code entered on pick up items; you are not responsible to pay .01c to the buyer. Not any different than a garage sale or swap meet; buyer saw, liked and paid (or they had someone do it)... either way, you are NOT responsible for the condition after it left. Not any different than selling a 5,10,30 yr old car, all might be great until the XYZ breaks, which could happen 1 second past the driveway.

Re: Buyer want me to pay for repairs.

This is why it is smart to accept cash only for local pickup sales. I would push back as hard as I could on this; the worst they could do is file for a return, not sure how that would work on a local pickup item.

Re: Buyer want me to pay for repairs.

My guess is their friends that picked it up damaged it.

If you offer to help, it might same some grief later.

I am not familiar with the way the QR code stuff works here so I want to be careful.

I used to work for a auction company. I have seen so many people damage nice items long before they ever make it to peoples homes or warehouse etc.

But, you never know.

If someone does have to pay for a replacement pedal, and there is wiring involved, I see $250 with labor.

Re: Buyer want me to pay for repairs.

If they paid on eBay but didn't  pay through the eBay app that gives a QR code eBay accepts messages showing a delivery date and time .

I don't believe it's  a not received problem. It's a not as described problem. Buyers or their agent should make sure it works before before leaving with the item. One of the reasons for local pickup is so the buyer can make sure it works before leaving with it. There's no need for buyer protection when you can examine it and see it works. If it doesn't work you don't  pay, or if you already paid you ask for a refund.

Re: Buyer want me to pay for repairs.

Next question is can you prove the user had some one else pick up the item??

That takes care of the MGB in theory if you can..

Re: Buyer want me to pay for repairs.

That's why in my post, the very first sentence is:  "Did you register the pick-up within Ebay's system that it was picked up? "

Re: Buyer want me to pay for repairs.

The buyer's friend picked up item 30 days ago and you used eBay system scanned code when picking up, you're out of the hook.  The buyer is out of return time frame for eBay policy, you can decline and eBay won't step in it.
