Hello! I've only had a handful of returns, but this is a first for me. Buyer ordered a few of the same item stating it didn't match the item description, but in the comment section of the request, they said the item was too "Christmasy" for them. They also proceeded to tell me to send a return label and refund them through paypal - also, I am not even sure how they paid because I use ebay payments. Ebay has withheld the funds from me for future payouts. They ordered a few packs of this item, so it did add up to quite a bit. I haven't had to really deal with this before, but how should I proceed since my returns policy (I set up in ebay) and chose the option "buyer pays for return shipping". Thank you in advance.

If buyer opened an official return for reason of 'item not described' you have to pay for the shipping label. Tell the buyer it's automated and they should find the label in the 'case' of the return. No paypal required. If customer out of the country, could be another story.
Just be sure you respond to any 'cases' that are opened and 'approve' the return if buyer did Not As Described.
ps. the "buyer pays return shipping" is NOT for Not As Described- you have to.

Since the buyer filed an INAD, you'll have to accept the return and pay return shipping, if you want them returned before refunding.
If you don't, Ebay could refund the buyer from your account and let them keep the items.

Your policy of "buyer pays for return shipping" means nothing in the face of eBay's Money Back Guarantee for buyers.
The MBG is detailed in every listing. Actually, ALL sellers as well as ALL buyers should become familiar with this policy, preferably BEFORE beginning to sell or buy on eBay.

Accept the return and provide a return label and refund when you get it back.
Then report the buyer for abusing MBG.
Show them the messages it was 'too Christmasy." Too big, too bright, too red, too green, whatever, that's not "not as described." It matched the picture. He didn't say it was broken, defective, or you didn't mention flaws.
I would ask eBay to reimburse you for the label HE was supposed to pay for if he didn't like it or he no longer wanted it.
I hate scamming buyers that work the system.

That is only for remorse returns. If the buyer claims Not as Described then you have to pay for the return shipping.
